Air Box Mod Pictures!
Here you go:
I just wanted to share these picture to those that are thinking about doing this mod. As you can see, I have really trimmed everything off with my dremel. I have left the mounting points so that nothing moves around. I do have one question....
What brand of filter should I use?

K&N - That's what I have, no CEL's, no water problems for almost a whole year now! But I have heard good things about all those listed in the poll. Just pick one buddy, and enjoy the new sound!

I put the AEM Dryflow on both of my balts. One has the XTC CAI mounted to the airbox.....no problems. The other uses the OEM intake/stock airbox and the check engine light comes and goes contantly. P0171 is the trouble code. Not sure what the problem is. I occaisionally reset it with the scan tool and other times I will let it go out on its own.
I am going to put an OEM replacement filter in to see if this will cure the issue. If not, I'll take it into the shop and have the warranty work done.

Is 21-2110DK the correct number for the dryflow?
And do they really get wet? I mean the intercooler in kind of in the way. Is water still going to be an issue?

ok so is water really an issue to the lsj the only way i see water going to the air filter is thru the fog lights and unless your trying to drive thru 2 feet of water is it really an issue ??

A little bit of water will get through... from the front and also through the wheel well. Remember water can fit just about anywhere. It just gives you a good state of mind with a hydro shield on there, but many people do not use one and they haven't had problems either, just be careful and don't drive through puddles, etc. when it's wet outside.

Explains it. Just get the size of your filter you're using and check it up online. Goes right over it.

well i was thinking the other night, and before i put the Moded air box (which is funny i wouldnt call it a box any more, i think i may have gone too far), as the bottem mount is not as strong anymore, but it is a good 6" higher in the inner fender, (as to not get any water sucked in)
(taken with camera phone,will get more before it goes back in)
there is nothing left of the Air Box, and to add to it, i had to cut into the lower mount to get the coupler to seat right..... looks nice for another 10min worth of work with a dremel.
sure it might not be 3" all the way to the throttle body, or it might not be polished or stainless steel.. buts its a cold air intake none the less..
