Air box mod, worth it ?

Well, I read many threads about intakes. "With an intake the car run more lean", that's waht we listen the most. I'm not really thinking about spend 2-300$ in an intake so does it worth it to do the "air box mod " to give more air to the engine or, to stay stock because intake mods cause a more lean engine ?

Thanks, Fred

yes, you can even get a clamp on K&N filter and not bother with getting an intake at all. <- thats what i did, then wheni got more mods, then i just took some 3" aluminum pipeing, 45* and 90 *, some couplers and made a custom CAI. used stock airbox so the MAF is in stock location. total cost was around $120 and some time

I would do both. Start with the air box mod and see how u like it. Then, though I bought an intake, make ur own. U can go to autozone and get the tubing, etc. . The only thing, u wanna make sure u don't mess with ur MAF and throw a code. An ebay intake is the same as a expensive one, they r just metal! Ebay intake will prolly run ya like 150. I bought my intake used, from a member offa here for like 100$.

i did the airbox mod, why wouldnt you? its free and you'll get faster revs and more sound.

i just ordered a sri though, but the airbox was cool for a month or so. i have a 2.2 though, but im assuming the benefits are similar for an ss/sc

Honestly, the Air box mod do the job. It cost me nothing to do,I already had a K&N filter here and almost have the same result than a 2-300$ any brand CAI or custom one. Like you said, I'll maybe change it later for a more bigger intake, maybe a custom one I don't know yet, but for now that's plenty fine for me

someone here know if an intake void the warranty?

i got a intake pretty much for the looks..i did the air box mod first thing when i bought the car and i loved it it sounded better then the intake..well the way i had it..u could barely give it gas and the box would echo the sound of the blower, the new intake is just high pitch. basically same air flow

I did the air box mod and then bought an AEM CAI . I noticed no change in performance ....none at all. The AEM was louder, which i liked ( I got it for $100 new so it wasn't a bad deal) , but from a pure performance view ....most intakes aren't going to produce more power than the Air BM , until you go to 3 inch.

if u want the sound without the expense then just take off the bottom of the box and pop in a new filter literally shouldn't take more than 15-20 min at most if ur changing out the filter to and depends what other mods u plan on doin gin the future
