Any one have this happen

I have had my SS for about 5 months now i have 6700 miles on it. I have had the car in the shop 4 times now for the samething CEl light and they say the dip stick and or dip stick tube is being pushed out of the engine. Now this time i have it in there and the tell me its because i cut off part of my airbox (was going to do air box mod but took back the K&N and got my money back). They told me its because it is sucking in too much air causing this to happen. I call BS it sounds liek blow by to me how else would the air get to the bottom part of the engine with out goign by the rings? I just think they have no idea whats wrong with the car so they wanan blame me for the whole thing it sounds like i got a hold of a lemon. :cussing: If anyone had any ideas let me know. Thinking about trading.

What code are you throwing?? If its the lean code then its probably from cutting the airbox.

how would cutting the airbox cause the the dipstick to do that.

Chevypowered 12-11-2005 02:44 PM

No i was saying if its the lean code that it could be the effect of cutting the air box. I don't know about the dip stick. never of heard that happening before, perhaps its a presure build up in the oil pan that cause the dip stick to be pushed out??? what code are you throwing so we can have a better idea of what is happening

CobaltSS05 12-11-2005 02:49 PM

it is the lean code there are 2 service # PIP3210E and PPI3492A

dirtySSout 12-11-2005 03:44 PM

yeah it feel like they are jerking me around. Anyone have a glue on what to do with this?

keeper51 12-11-2005 05:39 PM

i dunno either, seems i'm getting jerked around. My check engine light keeps coming on and going off every other day and I took it in last week, they told me something about computer not recognizing me using my clutch to shift gears, they cleared the codes but check engine light came on again the next day and stays on, anybody else having problems with the check engine light cause it's quie annoying.

BowTieCobaltSSSC 12-11-2005 05:46 PM

My CEL comes and goes also with the stock air box and stock filter ( no mods ) P0171 lean,I also get the same thing with the K&N CAI .so i'm not convinced the after market intakes have any thing to do with the CEL P0171 . Mine set the code 2 times prior to getting my CAI .I have the Stock Box on for winter and the dealer replaced the MAF sensor and still getting a CEL .

SO GM what ya gonna do ??

Doc 12-11-2005 05:49 PM

Lil Blue SC has that same thing happen. He has the K&N intake. He has oil all over his engine compartment yesterday and today....He doesn't get any CEL to my knowledge. He is a tech for GM, actually subaru...send him a pm and double check...

Cobalt_Supercharged 12-11-2005 05:50 PM

I wonder if it is a bad/plugged PCV. That would cause the pressure to build in the crank case.

CobaltSS05 12-11-2005 06:18 PM

sounds like GM needs to make a freakin recall on this car.

Lil Blue SC 12-11-2005 06:21 PM

YEA it happen to be the dip stick gets pushed up and oil goes all over the place... Anyone have an idea how to eliminate..????????????

CobaltSS05 12-11-2005 06:37 PM

oh yeah the only part i cut of fthe air boz was the part that look like a snorkel how could that suck in more air? and they want to charge me liwk 400 bucks to fix.

97cavie24ls 12-11-2005 09:41 PM

its called positive boost....boosting the engine makes crankcase pressure positive...pushing the dip out ;)

It's the PCV (Positive crankcase ventilation) valves' job to release crank pressure from the crank case without letting oil excape the pan. Sounds like it could be malfunctioning, as Cobalt_Supercharged has already stated.

wes_woodbridge_ss 12-12-2005 09:51 AM

I was runnin a lean code for the first few months that i had my 05 SS/SC the dealer blammed me at first, said i was hittin the red line out of gear. I called their bs so i took it back and they found a recall on the stock filter. The car came with a restrictive filter and had to be changed to a high-flow from GM. Cost me nuthin all warranty. The car hasnt had a code since.

dazednconfused75 12-12-2005 11:25 AM

There's a video floating around of a Red Line on a dyno when the dipstick pops out.

CobaltSS05 12-12-2005 10:03 PM

any guys with a CAI wanna get rid of ur stock air box ?

These guys are dead-on your problem. Not likely that it's blow-by, the PCV should still handle that, and you would find gas in the oil pan. I say tell em to check/replace the PCV. just my .02

Lil Blue SC 12-13-2005 06:11 PM

Yea ill sell ya mine....

num482 12-15-2005 10:19 AM

check the pcv. IF that doesnt work pull the oil cap and replace it with a breather
