Anyone else having this issue?

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with they're gears being hard to shift after the car being cold for a while, I know some of the trans mission fluid gets stiff but... Ive never had to fight to put my **** in gear.. and now... my reverse clunks when I try to put it in gear, so to avoid damage I wait and warm the car up... but I have never had this problem before in the past, and it probably started about maybe 2 to 3months ago.. Anyone else..?

Im really hoping my trans isn't going out.. ;(

ill almost guarentee u itll go away once it starts getting warmer out. not to say ignore it. if it keeps getting worse and worse then obviously there is a problem. like i know my car makes funny noises and feels weird in the winter but to be honest EVERY car will. my car does the same thing kindof. not in reverse but in other gears right when i start the car.

Yeah thats what I figured but man I like really have to fight to get that thing in first gear, and all the other gears at that.. like its almost ridiculous lol, its almost to the point I think Im gonna bend the little rods connected to the gear shift to the tranny lol, and then to top it off when I go into reverse it clunks very loud.

could be a throwout bearing or clutch problem or a low tranny fluid problem also

guarantee is is the TOB had the same problem. emptied the trans fluid and saw brass in it so i thought it was syncros so i took it in for warantee and it ended up being my TOB was bad. stupid thing was that after they found out the problem was they voided my warantee cuz it had an aftermarket clutch in it and ended up paying about 1300 for it....the part that pisses me off is i bought it with the clutch in it from them and they covered nothing!

My first gear is a little stiff when cold, opens right up as soon as she is warmed up a bit when it's cold. It can get pretty stiff when it's -30C out.

i have an issue with shifting when my clutch is hot, have not had issues with shifting into gear when cold except for a couple times, and those times all I had to do was let the car roll a couple inches and it was easy. When I go hard on the car the clutch peddle travels farther and with less effort but shifting is harder. My solution to that is throwing the car in neutral and pumping the clutch peddle until it becomes firmer.

any time i had issues goin into 1st gear, i would just try second(usually worked), or depress and repress the clutch, then throw it in 1st. it could be anything. master cylinder, TOB, syncros. unless your know what your doin i would take it to a tranny specilized garage. you could ignore it but you dont want to cause any more damage. if you have a warranty i would get it looked at. better to be safe then sorry. unless money is an issue.

Here is your bible for fluid changing, capacity, part number, etc, for the transmission on this car.

Read it and enjoy.

Yea, finding fluid is near impossible, GM is our only source for the "proper" fluid. Unless you travel to Europe often, in which case they sell the right transmission oil at nearly every automotive store.

No problem!

And yes, the only place you will be able to buy it, is from the dealership. It is a GM part, and there is nothing aftermarket that even comes close. Trust me.

Try putting it in 1st ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS before reversing. Our transmission is syncronized.

just a thought.... change your trans fluid with the proper kind, previous owner might have got it changed with a generic. like some may have already said.

in cold weather its normal after the car sits for extended periods of time to be hard to shift at first. all five speeds do it. gear oil kinda turns to this clay like viscosity when its really cold. if its too difficult to shift (aka can not get into second after first) just slap it into neutrtal and let off the clutch for about a min, then youll be good to go. our cars are more susseptable to cold with the origional fluid.

You'll need 2 quarts. It is roughly $55, and very easy.

Didnt read the hole thing, but my gm tech told me it was the master cyl. And I can get away without fixing it for years if I just pump the clutch like ten times before trying to go into gear. It only happens when my car sits outside over night in the cold. When she sits in the garage overnight shes fine. Maybe just try pumping the clutch.
