Atermarket Intakes ?

I've got an Injen intake on my Cobalt, and my car sits really low. Anywhoo, it snowed yesterday and I drove through the slush and crap. I'm pretty sure my filter got soaked. Well, the car sat since about 4pm yesterday until this morning I drove into town for a new filter (it was dirty/old anyways) and on the way back my CEL came on but I dont have time to get it all checked out until after I get back from a formation.

My question is, anyone else had this problem from the filter sitting so low and getting wet? Do those filter wraps work, or a waste of money?

The filter sleeve (dry shield) for the K&N filters works for nice mists and such, but not so much puddles. It does help, though..
the CEL i dont think you should worry about, although i think it may be due to needing a nice new filter.

You may want to consider an Injen Hydro Shield...

I went back to stock because my AEM filter was always getting wet and full of sand. Too much drama for me. The SS/SC filter location is not ideal for an exposed filter on a car being used as a daily driver.

Your filter is not even close to being in the same location as a SS/SC.

hahaha, nice catch... I just realized that.

Dude, you wasted your money on the hydro shield. You're not even near the wheel well.

I have driven through the nastiest snow falls, rains, slush, and puddles, and unless your actually submerging your intake, you should be fine. I do live in MN too. When you go through bigger puddles just make sure to keep your RPMs down so your not creating a huge vacuum through the intake. Like I said before, just don't submerge it. Buy a hydro shield. Can't hurt I guess. Also, I have an oiled filter. This helps repel the water and moisture. Dry/paper filters act like a sponge. I would never use one in this state.

All I drove through was a couple inches of slush yesterday. The filter was about time for a change anyways, this probably didnt help its cause.

Swapped it out, and the car ran fine the mile or two back to the barracks. In about an hour it's going on a two hour trip so we'll see how she does.

If you are not running a hydro shield then your filter is getting wet. You just don't realize it
