Awful clicking noise when cold

I have heard much about the axle clicking noises people are having. I am not sure if this is the same thing.

When I start my car when it is cold, it always makes a "click" when the car kicks on.

When it is really cold outside, the noise appears as one loud click when i press the clutch in, and sometimes when starting off in reverse or in first. This only happens when it is cold outside, and the car itself is cold. After driving for about 10 minutes, it doesn't happen anymore. It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side front of the car.

help!

I think your noise is coming from ur exhayst. Could be a sliglty loose gasket.

Hey guys,

The sound you all are talking about is the stock exhaust piping expanding due to the heat. Mine makes loud clicks and small pops as it expands. Then, when I shut the car off, it ticks for another 5-10 minutes while contracting back to normal. Switching out the stock resonator and going to stainless piping should solve the issue.

nope. im sure some of the other guys having the same noise as i have can attest that this is not it. this is coming from the front right of the car when the clutch is pressed/depressed in very cold weather. it will continue for quite some time until the coolant is up to about 180 degrees.

i dont describe mine so much as clicks and pops. thats an innaccurate way of describing it. it is almost a squeaking and light bang when the car is started in cold weather at first. then it happens upon clutch use (as i already said).

however, i could be hearing different noises than everyone else. no telling for sure.

edit: for reference i'm talking after the car has been sitting overnight in <30 degree weather. it's worse when it is closer to 0.

it is annoying and does not sound good at all

it's definitely not the ticking of the exhaust...however i do get this when i shut the car off...i believe this ticking is normal

Exact same thing with mine, I've seen other posts about this here recently as well. Either we all have the same thing messed up or it's normal. Always happens first thing in the cold early morning reversing out of the driveway. My sound I would describe as a "click" or "pop", but I hear a little bit of a "sqweak" in it as well and I can see how you might decribe it like that. Do you guys having the sound have the LSD?

Sounds like you boys to the north got it bad. If it's in the tranny like y'all suspect, could be that, if you have a manual trans, the metal moving parts are cold and just haven't had time to lube up and get warm.

Hello! Get that clicking in your axles taking care of before the warrenty goes up. I bought an 06 ss/sc and it had a clicking noise since i bought it. I took it to my local dealer and they could not figure it out. Then the replaced both axles(under warrenty) and now the clicking noise is gone.

I have a noise very similar to this from the right front of the car when its really cold out . I traced it down to my ingalls torque brace . Took it off , noise went away . Put it back on and I had the sqeak noise again . I get it when the engine moves when u first crank the ignition , usually when I reverse , then occassionally in upshifts until the cars warms up and the brace gets warm . Then it all goes away .

If ya got ingalls , take it off to verify . It maybe or may not be your problem .

Sometimes i get it too. Seems to me like these cars have a lot of little rattles and shakes in the odds and ends. Gives it some character. lol

I get the clicking noise whenever it is cold, then it goes away when warmed up.

I checked the pullies with a stethascope, and figured out its my larger tensioner pulley. Must just be the bearing in it or something, til it heats up.

I guarantee this is A LOT of peoples noise. Sounds like something in the rotating assembly, passenger side. A timed click that sounds like its going round and round.

i need to try taking the brace off. wont be able to do that until later on in the week.

now that you mentioned that though, i would highly suspect that to be the problem. dunno why that didnt cross my mind.

i sort of feel my noises are different tho. cuz mine is definitely a noise only when the clutch is engaged and disengaged. if i cant find anything, i'll go to the dealer next week and keep this thread updated.

I don't have an Ingalls but have the sound. I'll be interested to see what you dealer says.

It's most likely going to be the half-shafts (axles). When I took mine it the dealer shop didn't think it was the issue, but after I told them about it they replaced them. Now the noise is gone.
