axle shaft problems

i have an 06 ss and i broke my stock shafts screwing around so i put the stage 1 zzp shafts in and they just snapped to. its stock besides my injen cai. are there some other factors that could make them want to snap? when i put the zzp shafts in it felt like there was a little more play then their should be.

thanks!

power hop kills axles. need rotated mounts at least.

your control arm bushings more than likely. Your mounts not likely...

you would get clunking for sure braking and turning. But breaking more than one axle is unusual and its impossible to tell on the net if you have some sort of issue causing it, or if you are beating the car to death and it hates you....

I'm not getting a chunking noise. And sadly I haven't really got on it. I had it for a day snapped the remaned ones that were in it then threw the stage ones in there and they snapped at the joint too. I have it all apart trying to see if something is out of alignment .

what torque spec did you put on the axle nut? If it is overtorqued that could be an issue. If it is the passenger side, is the inner plunge joint free to move in and out of the intermediate shaft. It the IM shaft splines are rusty it can be an issue. Are the wheel bearings in good condition? etc

when i put an axle in i put a light coat of antisieze on the shaft splines to help keep corrosion out of the mix

^^^this. Outer joint is a constant velocityjoint goes up and down and left and right . Inner joint is a "plunge " joint goes in and out. Shaft should be free to move in and out slightly at ride height.

so i finally had time to tear into it this afternoon. i have brand new control arms. and ive checked some forums awhile back and they said there was a few mm size difference between 05-07 to 08-10 and they wouldnt even fit it. but when i went to remove the bolts they were not fully tightend down. that does seem like that would give it enough play tho?

torque value on the cross bolts is 37 ft lbs, then back off 3/4 turn then 37 ft lbs + 25 degrees. There is a 1 mm difference in ball joint pin, 05-07 smaller than 08-10.

keep looking. loose ball joint pin would not break axle unless driver is crazy launching...keep looking, and/or consider driver mod lol

but if you are talking about the rear trailing arm joint, its 75 ft lbs + 180 degrees or 145 ft lbs, and many folks dont get these tight.

still scratching my head on your problem....

i appreciate your help with my problem. i just ordered solid trans and engine mounts so hopefully that helps too. i sent my zzp shafts back they warranted them and once i get them back in i was thinking of sending it out for an alignment to see if something is tweaked somewhere.

Well its been a few days since I posted but my zzp shaft is to short still and I bought stock ones and they too are also pulling out of the cup. Sent it out for an alignment and they said everything is dead nuts center. So confused with this car.

Sub'd I might have to change everything down there. Every time I turn and accelerate a little or go over some bumps I hear a clanking sound from underneath.

well today i figured out that the stock shafts compressed are 25in driver and 26in passenger. the zzp shafts are 23in both sides they arent side specific.
