B&M vs. gm short throw

I believe the cobalt ss/sc comes with a short throw shifter, and B&M makes a short throw shifter for the ss/sc. I was just wondering if the B&M would do anything??

B&M does not make one for the 2.4?

I actually heard that the B&M isn't that much of a noticable difference. I am waiting for the hurst to be released this month:

The B&M doesn't make shifts all that shorter, but it does make them 10x firmer. I love it! I have yet to miss a shift with it. It also moves the shifter up (B&M in neutral looks like stock in 3rd) It gives you way more leverage and makes shifts way easier. My shift speeds are limited to how fast I can push and release the clutch. IMO It's a GREAT investment

shifting is a ton more direct feeling and stiffer. throw is marginally shorter but the feel is what makes it worth it.

Take the link I put up there and fill in the ****'s with redlineforums .com and see what the hurst shifter looks like, I honestly think it is damn sexy compared to the B&M!

The stock stick is angled back just a little but if your B&M looks like the OE shifter in 3rd when in neutral it is set up wrong.

The terrible thing about aftermarket shifters is the lack of a neutral lock or 4th lock so setting the rods properly can be a bitch.

If the B&M is installed correctly, it will in neutral, look like the factory shifter in third. It has to be set up in this way and only this way to allow the shifter to move over the reverse gate properly. If the shifter is angled too far back, it won't go into reverse gear and too far left or right will force you to pull the reverse lock out to shift into fifth. Actually worked out great for me as I have long arms and having the shifter angle moved forward helped me from that horrible 2-3 shift.

Well I would view the position as a defect not a plus. If anything a shifter should angle back not forward. I think it's a design mess up.

I have the Short throw in my car. However, the leather shift boot has been torn off due to shifting into 5th and or reverse. There is a black sort of box that is about 3 inches under the knob and hits the side(right side for reverse and 5th gear placement) of my console. Does anybody know how to fix this problem if at all? i currently need to buy another shift boot so dust and other particles don't find themselves down below.

You probably just need to re adjust where you clamped the cables. Did you mark the stock location before taking them off?

Actually i did not. When i drove it for the first time, All my gears engaged correctly SO i figured it was at the proper angle even though i had never seen a short throw angle forward. Im not sure how to fix this problem. does anyone have pictures? maybe from another forum?

Your short throw is supposed to be angled forward. You just need to adjust the two clamps that connect to the 2 cables. It will be a minor adjustment but it will make it engage properly. I had this same problem. I couldnt get in reverse or 5 at all.

I love my B&M. I agree with Blown4banger when he said he has yet to miss a shift, I my self have not missed a single throw yet I do nitice the height differance and the fact that the whole shfter feels more "foward" than the stock shifter. I love B&M
