B&M Vs. Hurst STS. Which Is better?
Many people ask this question, however the Hurst STS and the B&M STS are esentially the same product, there is not much difference between them. Many people make the decision on which shifter they want by the design of the shift knob. I had the pleasure of having both shifters in my car, and im going to tell you what I like and dont like about them, and which one i would prefer.
Hurst: I had the shifter in my car for about 10k miles. The day i got it, I opened the package and the knob was damaged. it had a small dent on it, but no big deal. my favorite part about this shifter was the knob. The install was easy if you know what you are doing, the directions sucked *****. After Installing the shifter and driving the car for awhile, I didnt care too much for the Hurst. It didnt feel "precise" and actually felt sloppy. The throws felt almost no better than stock, but i didnt care. I liked the metal clicking noise it made when I shifted. at first 5th gear was akward, but i actually started to like where it was located. The reverse lockout was good, and i really liked the polished finish of the shifter. After awhile, the shifter started to get what seemed sloppier so i decided to trash it.
B&M: I just installed this bad bitch today. Install was the exact same, except for some reason I had a hard time connecting the linkeage at the bottom of the shifter, no big deal. I didnt really follow any directions when installing this, but afterwards I did read the manual. The directions were a lot better than the one the Hurst came with. After driving the car, I loved this shifter. The throws seem a bit shorter and a lot more precise. The knob does not jitter and move around or anything at all. One thing that is very important you dont **** up when installing the knob is the little set screws. The B&M to me feel tighter and a lot more fun to use. Reverse with this knob will take some used to getting in. The only thing I like better about the Hurst than the B&M is that the spring for the reverse lockout was stronger, on the B&M when you release the reverse lockout, it seems like it sluggishly goes back into its place. This shifter definately made me enjoy driving my car more, im not sure why but I liked it a lot better than my other one. The knob is w/e to me tho. Im just going to put the stock shift knob on it later down the road.
Now I am not saying the B&M is better, i am just saying from my experience with both shifters that I prefer the B&M. In reality tho, they are almost the exact same, its just little things that I have noticed.
HOPE THIS HELPS.
