I understand this topic has been brought up in excessive amounts and that people should use the search button before posting a question. Why does everyone think that blow off valves are ricey though?

wanting a SC car to make a blow off sound is ricey. it's not necessary for the engine to function properly and has no buisness being on a SCed car.

sure BOVs get mad looks but when somone that knows about cars sees what you have going on they're just gonna laugh at you.

in my opinion parts such as over size whale tale wings, excessive neon lights, asian symbols on the side of cars that aren't asian in nature, and bovs on cars that aren't turbocharged is a little ricey.

it's ricey because it serves zero purpose, and doesn't belong... all it does is make a sound so people think you have a turbocharged car... but like said ^^^^ anyone that knows anything would laugh at you

also, with a MAF style EFI, you really don't want to just blow air off into the night, it would really richen up the mix and so on... of course, then you can remove the cat, res and muffler and shoot little flames when you shift, like in need for speed most wanted.... which is almost kinda worth it.

therefore and in conclusion, it's not doable in the sense that it wouldn't effing work.

also realize what a BOV does, it releases extra pressure to keep you from overboosting the car. (boost bypass valve does that)... but, it doesn't make the car faster. the only real reason they are "Added" is on cars with higher than stock boost levels so that the factory valve doesn't blow out all that added pressure...

some people just like to vent them to open air for speed of operation... no real point at all... cept on a big rig where the volume of air that needs to be evacuated is huge compared to the volume on someone's 1.8t golf.

Just go "Psshhhhhtt!" every time you shift. It has pretty much the same effect, and it's a lot cheaper.

Just unhook the line from the boost bypass that routs the air back into the intake, it will sound just like a BOV.

I thought they did serve a purpose though. If you increase your boost on a Turbo car and cant release all of the pressure, it goes back and spins against the spool of the turbine it is very harmful to its function. And if you have a BOV and get a tune to even the A/F mixture, you dont run too rich. And how is it possible to put one on a car that doesnt have a turbo... unless you're talking about a car that gets a BOV noise as his horn or those "sound turbocharged" whistlers in the tailpipe.. I agree those are ricey. Having one on a turbo car for an actual function isnt ricey though

a box does serve a purpose on a turbo charged car.....OUR CARS ARE NOT TURBOCHARGED!
