not being funny here, but the ones that you like and can afford to fix it something should break.

I should have been more specific. I am looking for a car, and i have a few choices to make. I am trying to figure out what car I would like the best for a DD. some of my choices are a mazdaspeed protege, srt-4, maybe a evo, a wrx or a cobalt SS but Im really not sure right now. I am looking around and reading several forums before I make my choice. what i am wanting to know is what are some good mods for a DD and yes i know that i could use the search button but i wanted some feed back to my specific questions. thanks for your help.

What kind of power output would you ultimately be looking for?

i probally would like to shoot for somewhere around 300... if that is not too hard to obtain. really i want to make a quick car while not having to build the block. i would like to do most major bolt ons.

Turbo cars respond better. So i put it like this T/CSS>Srt-4>MS3...that's just my view, and yes I am cobalt biased. But, when money becomes an issue then that is where it gets different. SS/SC are pretty darn cheap to mod. I think the mod/money ratio is well-balanced.

Def stay away from the speed 3. If I could go back I would get an Evo I think. Not that I don't love my car. It just would have been easier to go with an evo from the start. If you really want serious power evry car is going to need major work.

Tough question. I guess it all comes down to what you are wanting out of the car.

I'd have to say to go with the Cobalt SS Turbo if that's an option. Not because this is a Cobalt forum though. The Evo is an expensive car to begin with and an expensive car to mod. Ditto for the WRX. Now the Cobalt Turbo is a fairly cheap car and iven time the LNF motor I think will become a monster. And the mods for it are fairly cheap as well. Check out some of the Vendors on prices for things like chargepiping and intercoolers.

SRT-4 is also another cheap car but the performance is not that of the Cobalt SS Turbo. Plus it looks like a shed on wheels. Saying you're talking about the Caliber. Neon SRT-4, fast cars but it'll be hard finding one that is not ragged out.

with 300 hp, either to the tires or at the block, traction with a fwd car is a problem, and would be no fun in bad weather, i like the evo, all wheel drive and what not, and they are almost 300 from the start. but anything can be had to 300 with time and money. so you should start thinking about your budget. I have a ss/sc thats stock, 200hp, which is fun for dd duties, but it is still very reliable. but if you got the money evo>sti

if you are planning a 300 hp daily, do you have a fun weekend toy? or is this both?

that very possible, may not be cheap, but possible. do you have to think about winter driving where u live? i know thats something that has me planning my mods very carefully. i have to drive mine in snow and ice, so dont want to get to the power level where i am starting in third or something just so i dont lose all traction and end up in the ditch or worse

You can buy used 2000-2003 corvettes for around $18,000. At least where I live. I have been tempted a few time lol.

QFT~! There is really no such thing as the "best mod". It really comes down to what you wanna do. My vote is a 2.8", 60's, custom tune, S2 belt, dual pass, H/E, mounts... But as we all know with any modding like this, that your DD becomes a money pit...

is MPG efficiency an issue? Evo has 22MPG hwy est, and real world sees 20~22 unless you drive like a grandma. On my SS/SC I get 28~29mpg with a lead foot doing 99% highway. I'm sure if I baby it I could get 30mpg+

mods and mpg

mods:

stg2, tranny mount, engine solid mount, CAI

or

2.9, 60lb, H/E, dual pass and exhaust

or

tvs / harrop 1.3l, full exhaust, header, meth

or... whatever makes you happy. what is your goal?

more whp means also better traction parts, brake system, new tune, new pcm, etc...

and for mpg, I do about 33 when driving 80% highway with my mods...

have fun
