I would think so if the head is damaged. The plug bits were dancing around in teh cylinder. Ill bet the piston is jacked up a bit and the walls are scored in that cylinder.

Best bet is to try and look in there if possible to see, then do a comp test and make a judgement call from there. If it runs and drives ok without making weird noise, drive it. Just keep a salvage motor in mind soon!

free. they rent the tool at autozone and its very simple to do. remove spark plug, insert tester, crank engine. (there's slightly more to it, but thats the basic idea)

Got a picture of the bad plug?
If just the porcelan broke, it may not have done any damage.
Find a shop with small camera scope and have them look in there to see.
Or pull all the plugs, crank the engine by hand until that piston is up all the way and look with a good flashlight.

Sure, I was asking because i am approaching the same mile mark as OP. Was wondering if I should do something to prevent this situation.

You can put a big socket on the Crank Pulley bolt and turn it. You cant bump it with the key?

It wont try to autostart, its just a real PITA to do it that way. You need to just bump the key, do like 3-4 cranks and thats it.
