Angry Breaking in "how to"

I have a SS/SC and it has 172 miles. whats the proper way to break in the motor. ppl are telling me dont let the gas meter go under 1/4 tank, sum say warm it up for 3-5 min, other say dont go over 60 mph. any one please?

I've always heard go easy on the engine for the first 500-1000 miles, vary the speed.

Well I can tell you that i still let my car warm up to about 110 before I start driving. I have about 8300 miles on it. I wouldn't go past 65 with it. Don't go over like 3500-4000 rpm with it. I wouldn't floor it either. There's many opinions on this. I'm just letting you know what I think is the best. As far as gas goes, there shouldn't be a problem with running it down all the way.

110 degrees...consult your DIC (driver information center) by pressing the button with the "i" to the right of the steering wheel

read the manual, it will tell you how to properlly do it.

Me personally I always give the car a run through a gear just to make sure it can withstand the RPM and its not going to fall apart at 501 miles when I floor it for the first time.

agreed, read the manual. it ll cover more then just " breaking in" your 'balt. might not be a bad idea to drive your 'balt until the the low fuel sign comes on. do it for a few times so you can get a feel on your fuel milage. good luck, you ll love you cobalt!

Just baby it with the occasional high rev shifts to properly bind the gaskets. Dont stomp the breaks either. 500miles just give er'

ive spoken to a couple of guys that build high horsepower engiens for a living and they have both told me the same thing, break it in hard without redlining it, just go wot in 3rd and 4th gear, up to about 5000 rpm, then let the engine coast down to about 2000 rpm, then do it again, after 3-4 times your engine is essentially broken in, the rings have had time to heat up and cool down, thus expanding and properly sealing the combustion chamber
