A/C delete kit?

I searched and found nadda. I wanna know if ne one ever found a kit or makes one?

redcobalt07 12-01-2011 07:36 PM

why?

OttawaMark 12-01-2011 08:19 PM

weight, that sucker is heavy.

mrbelvedere 12-01-2011 08:40 PM

...................ask why?

lol.

I want to do it....or at least see if its an option. Scrat is going in road race/street car mix....dont need a/c

Leafydialupking 12-02-2011 09:49 AM

You will need a pulley to go in its spot. I would say it was easy, if you were not supercharged. you could just buy the cavalier ecotec with no a/c belt and have a belt that just ran crank to alt to tensioner. It would be 1 rib to narrow but thats not a big deal since the non lsj guys who are blown run our tensioner, blower, and alt 1 rib short.

If you find one let me know. I keep bugging ZZP to make me one with no luck.

68nova200 12-02-2011 10:43 PM

Take the ac off and measure the length of belt you need. Im sure someone makes one close enough.

Yup, if the a/c isnt there and you ran the "correct length" belt it would rub against itself on the bottom of the alt pulley.

Powell Race Parts 12-03-2011 05:14 PM

Mr. Belevedere is correct/ Just remove your ac compressor, undo the rear through bolts remove the guts and the compressor housing, then bolt back on the car this will be the front compressor nose bracket with pulley and bearing . U u r done. Lite, cheap, no cost to you and perfect belt alignment.

PS be kind to the environment and first have the a/c charge properly removed with a/c equipment.

EXsoccer1921 12-03-2011 05:17 PM

the ac pump and compressor together both weigh exactly 25lbs. never measured any of the lines though.

nfarrall 12-19-2011 11:30 PM

will doing that actually increase performance in some way?

padlock 12-19-2011 11:33 PM

less parasitic loss.. which is turn would be kinda like gains you would see from lightweight pulleys only with "pulley delete" in this case. faster revs too im assuming

EXsoccer1921 12-19-2011 11:34 PM

well. the way i went about doing it. atleast 25lbs of weight savings, better cooling of the engine, and i bet i can rev to 8,000 faster than a stock lsj can make it to 6500

nfarrall 12-19-2011 11:35 PM

so your saying its worth it? lol is it just a one and done type deal or do you have to get it tuned after?

myfakeevo 12-19-2011 11:36 PM

it would be smarter for you to get on a treadmill and loose 8lbs. also the a/c is electric. no loss unless you turn it on. thats why you dont bother taking it out.

Marginally, I bet if you dynoed a car back to back with the belt on and with it off it would make the same power (non a blown car of course). There's been tests done with other cars that show that the losses associated with the accessories is withing the error range of the dyno. At least newer cars that is.

EXsoccer1921 12-19-2011 11:37 PM

depends on how extreme/expensive you want to go. personally unless you plan on strictly racing the car, i would stick to just gutting the compressor and leaving it's pulley. gains will be minimal other than weight, but it doesn't hurt.

theres no such thing as a zero friction pulley....... you still have a loss whether its electric or not.. not saying its huge though

nfarrall 12-19-2011 11:38 PM

if its a minimal gain. it might not be worth it to lose ac

1-2hp

or if you are getting into my age bracket, 1-2 hair follicles are more important.

But you need it for the blower to work, and it'll be more like 0.1-0.2 hp tops.

10.6lbs actually. and no, the "no loss unless you turn it on" is incorrect. have you tried to spin the compressor by hand??? go do it, and tell me that isn't a good load on the belt.

nfarrall 12-19-2011 11:47 PM

would i need to be retuned if i did this since the blower may or may not be spinning faster?
