CAI vs....
CAI vs....
From what I have been reading, almost all of the CAI's have been giving the car the check engine light. From what I understand, the CEL voids the warranty from the dealership/GM. I don't understand why you guys would want to do that. No offense but warrantys own lol. What do you guys think about this..
An aftermarket air filter (K&N) just to get the same whining noise that sounds amazing. Does the filter actually compare to the sound that a normal CAI does? Is it hard to put a new filter on it as well? Thanks.

I wouldnt be so much worried about a cai messing up your car under warranty, If your car messes up, the dealrship has to prove that the cai caused that problem or else your car is still warranty, just get a cai, the gains, and sound are worth it.

A CEL does not void the warrany and neither does a CAI. Only if it is proven your CAI caused engine damge would the warranty not be honoured. I have talked to my delaer already.
Lots of Injen intakes have not thrown a code from what I have read.

If you get a CEL with codes that relate to the MAF sensor or the infumous P0171. You will be responseable for diagnostic charges. The CAI is most likely the cause and you will need to return it back to stock and see if the DTC resets. If not, the CAI was at fault, if the DTC returns, then something else is problematic.
If you suck in water and hydrolock your engine with a CAI, it's on you.
These are some examples of things that would not be covered from a CAI.

Nothing. Only thing I could see happening is if you drove through a deep puddle of water and managed to suck up a bunch of water through the intake. But I suppose even the stock setup could do this. Just get the intake, your warrenty will be fine and if it worries you that much just go to the how-to section and read up on the airbox mod, that's 95% the same thing as a $200+ cai.

And I would think that GM would have to prove that the CAI was the cause of any repairs that had to be made. Unless you ran your car w/CAI through a small pond and turned the CAI into a giant straw for the engine I would think you would be safe.
And give into peer pressure...DO IT!

I was at the dealership and I was asking about an intake and the dealer said most intakes were giving off a CEL therefore voiding the warranty. I was unaware that if it is proved that the CAI didn't cause whatever malfunction that could have happened to the engine that it woudln't do anything to the warranty. Knowing this, I'll go into the dealership ready to fire.
I installed a CAI on my mustang and it wasn't to difficult. The way that the setup is on the Cobalt looks like it would be a bitch to install. Maybe if the K&N filter is easier to put in then i'll just do that. Either way, would you have to have a lift to get to the airbox as it's in the wheel well?
