Cams.

Hey guys, I have researched quite a bit and from what I can tell there aren't any cams available for us that actually make a decent amount of difference. I am making this post to see if my research is just full of fail, or to double check that there really isn't anything worth while for us.

I am rebuilding the motor July 13th and wouldn't mind tossing in a set of decent cams that are going to gain me something. I don't want to put them in if there not going to do much. Shed some light on this subject for me please, thanks guys.

All cams for the lsj are regrinds currently and have a smaller base circle then stock. This leads to the premature failure of lash adjusters. They could work with solid lifters iirc you would just need to get them machined properly.

from what ive heard cams are not worth the extra bump in power... unless ur going for every last drop of power u can get out of this motor.

BLE makes the solid lifters for the Ecotec. Just call them and order a set, but specify its for the the LSJ. They should drop right in a adjust just like a Honda's does!

I bought a set of steel cam blanks from Ray Bates with the hex uninstalled and he shipped them to comp for us to have them grounded with stock base circles. Gains should be fairly noticable. Hex will be pressed upon lining them up and pressing. No need for solid lifters this way.

What specs are you having the cams ground to? Very curious about this and would also like to know how much it will cost roughly for them when all is said and done.

The cam blanks cost $205/each and $35 for the hex. Comp is charging $125.75/each for grounding. As far as specs go I can remember right now. I have the specs down at my store and my memory isnt good enough for me to remember so Ill post them when I get there. I did go over our entire build with Chris Mays as this car has so many mods and alot of internal work in progress now.

subd for more info. What were the gmr cams like? Where they more power or just a broader powerband? I do not know much info on cams and this seems like a good place to ask questions and learn

Everybody has there own opinon about number with cams yet many people also forget that you cant just go buy "performance" cams and expect to gain huge numbers. The way I am doing this imo is the best way whereas I am having custom blanks ground to suit the mods on my balt and therefore I will see much more gains because the cams will be grounded correctly for this application. Many people that claim that custom cams will/wont make much power increase must understand this. Cams are never something that you can add on correctly when you are extremely moded like I am. It is def a must to have them custom made.
