Cams, cams CAMS! (and gears)

I just got the my SS back from jbodyperformance, after a relatively lengthy installation of brand new cams and their timing gears (non GM ones). I think im the first one in the world to have cams?!? they said they've done tons of 2.2 ECOTECs, but this was the first 2.0 super they touched. Anyhow, they were very professional and do very clean work. The cams gears were set to stock 0 degrees. I'm happy that there are no codes, but even more happy that the boost comes on so much quicker now!!! and the top end is insane!! It feels like at least 10-15HP gain. now all I have to do is bring it back for some dialing of the cam gears and then get some dyno time guys.. wish I had pics!

I know this doesn't count as a comparison, but i raced a malibu 3.4L (170HP) and blew his doors off... I don't get as much wheel spin as before, which means I just hook right away and then when the car get s going, its screaming all the way to redline.... its just awesome, money well spent.

Yeah I can not wait to see some dyno numbers to see what you gained. I'm interested in swapping my cams also.

Yes price would be nice and part #'s used would be good too. Also is there any change in the sound of the motor, I would expect there is but since I’m not experienced on 4-bangers I can’t say. And was there any other adjustments done?

hey dude i have the gm performance racing cams and cam gears in my cobalt ss

Cams and cam gears are a def good upgrade with the psifi piggy back and header, intake and exhaust.

the cams were blanks then Crane Cams did my grinds for me.

Stay tuned, trying to get the engine on a dyno before it goes back in the car for my sema build.

what out for pistons, rods, fuel rail, port fueller system and intercooler upgrades coming soon.

Thanks again

i dont think the cams are worth the money to get 15 hp. but the cobalt ss is all bottom end. i see the need to build the top end. it may be worth it. but before he says how much he paid. i guess it was around $2000

I would hope no one paid $2000 for cams. Im from the LS1 world and the most you pay for a cam in a LS1 is like $700 and thats on the high side.

I am with you on this one. I will sell cams for the SS @$2000 all day. PLease paypal your money now..... a good LS1 cam, install and tune should only set you back 1200-1500 and there is a lot more labor involved with a pushrod engine.

although pushrods only have one cam, but regardless, $2000 is still excessive for a cam install and tune.

Littless, I cant wait until you get the new exhaust cam so we can finally see some #'s that these will put down. Oh and hopefully you wont bend anymore valves with the new one.

oh trust me when i get the news ones i will get the numbers that is for sure.

also come to find out after pulling the head doing the tests the vavle was not bent, get this it was a fuel injector wire that had gotten stuck unter the valve cover and clip causing the injector to ground out causeing fuel to dump. i was so but all in all it was a great learning experinace as what not to do

Whats the grind on the cams? Did it give the car any type of lope? After I installed the cams on the Evo, she had a nice lope to her. First time I have ever heard a 4 cyl. lope.

what is the duration? come to think of it what are the specs on the stock cam? generally forced induction wont get as much out of a cam upgrade as NA. the air is just itchen to get past the intake valve so turbo/sc dont usually call for a big duration and lift cam.

thats odd, i thought I posted how much I paid and part numbers... anyways, I paid C $699 for the cams and C $450 cash for the install. the part numbers were JP0889 for cam gears and JP0868 for the camshafts. cams + cold weather = power!!

What are vacum readings on your boost guage? I had their cams in my Ecotec and it went to about 12 inches of vacumm. I had RSM put stock ones back in and the car ran much smoother and vacum returned to normal about 18-20.

ok the stock ones according to comp cams are 390/390 lift 195/202dur 117 sep. this is as best as they can tell. Now the ones they offer for the S/C vehicles are 423/426 lift 210/218 dur and 112/114 sep
now the ones he put in if i am under standing right should be 466 lift 222 dur and 112/119 sep
please someone if this is wrong please say something
