camshafts

hey everyone. ive just started to buy some stuff for my car again and its time for cams. im new to the whole engine building scene. ive had the car for over a year with mods listed in my sig. i just bought diamond pistons, wrist pins, clips and rings. supertech 78lbs springs w/ retainers. jbp vortex header. lookin at goin w some new connecting rods(dunno yet) and lookin to drop to a 2.8" pulley. also getting a dual pass soon, along with water meth eventually. its time for cams and dunno what i can run with the springs i bought. i was told that i cant run a 272. i dont know much of anything about cams. i was lookin at jbp triflows but it sounds liek theres better bang for the buck to be had. like i heard comp has some good grinds out for the lsj. whos got cams and what kidna power we lookin at here. im lookin to make some sweet power and i want a wild cam that will work with the setup i have/will have. as i said before im new to all of this so be gentle and help me along as if i were a 2 yearold. haha anyways sorry for the long post. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance CSS.net

I believe Witt is running a 272. His motor is also built to spin up to 8K.

kind of gay that there are NO cams that are a direct swap for the LSJ's due to the hex drive that is pressed on the end of one of the cams. Plus - I HATE running regrinds and I would rather just phase the stock cams using adjustable gears before i would run a regrind. I wish some cam company would offer performance cams with the stock base circle and the hex drive so we can do a direct replacement.

JBP has billet blanks....not re-grinds.

doing a 272/276/ or 280 regrind will yield a power bump but you'll suffer more down low.

Really? Why do they have a core charge then?? Odd... I hope that what you say is true cuz that would rock.

cams are cool. they sound cool. tuning is a bitch. if you don't know what you're doing with hpt. i don't recommend them for newbies. three days of hair pulling ****, im finally making headway.

you can run 272's in these cars. shims optional. springs retainers, seat locators are a must.

the higher the number. the more radical the cam is in hks terms.

im running the 78lb springs Ti retainers, and seat locators. supertech stuff with the 272 grind cams.

who ever told you that was obviously special in the head.
