get a degree and become a military officer...lol

I'm enlisted but if I would have gone to college I could be making almost 2k more a month(about 5k) without doing the dirty work to move up. Also I get to retire at age 39...lol
(airforce or navy preferably)

Thats why I'm taking a hit and getting a job that pays less, but will provide me with that all important "on-the-job" experience most employers really care about.
I went to college for 3 years to get my associates in Network Administration. Through out college, I mowed lawns. Now I own my own lawn care company, and am in the process of buying another one. So much for my AAS.... LOL

Who here would like to have a job that bases at $50,000 a year for the first year and with-in 5 will be making between $80 - $100 grand? After a few more years you'll be hitting the $110 - $120 a year mark! Now true you CAN NOT get high and you'll have to forget about partying all the time and the hours can be long but the work is easy!

Anyone interested in something like this?

Hey Terry, hook a brother up man.

In all serious though, I'm a non-commisioned officer in the United States Army. I clear around $40k a year (clear, as in after taxes) stateside, but over the last year I've been in Iraq I believe I've cleared about $95k. The hours really suck though.

I currently do all the details for a chevy/hyundai dealership. I also do details on the side when I am not at work. I am a full time student with criminal law as my major.

Go check out depending where you live either one of the following....
Union Pacific
BNSF (Burlington Nothern Sante Fe)
Norfolk Southern
CSX

Any and all of these rail roads are now hiring to replace the guys hired in the 1970's. They provide complete training and teach you everything you need to know to run trains.
AND this is NOT just a job but a life long career that pays a retirment second ONLY to congress! You have the best benifits second only to congress and the railroad is in the top 5 highest paid blue coller jobs in the US.

All you need to do is go to the respective companies wb sites and look for thier on line applications. Fill it out and wait to be called. Pass a few tests a BOOM! Your on your way to one of the most secure best paying jobs in this country! We have 2 unions to protect us and we have the federal govt on our side when it comes time to hit the barganing table.
Remember if WE strike, the country, the economy, travel, EVERYTHING SHUTS DOWN!
Railroads may be old but don't kid yourselves, without us this country would grind to a halt.

Definately need a part time job on the weekends the way this is going...
First thing i should tell you is that you don't need more then one car. If you're having problems with bills then just sell one of your cars. Get rid of the SS and just keep the 5L for awhile till you have some money saved.

As for a career. When i was 18 i went to school and followed my father's footsteps to be a CPA. Graduated college in 02 and started a good job at 40K. It's good money and easy if you're smart and motivated.

I refer you to the air traffic controller fiasco of the 80s. No job is ever safe.

Sounds like a spiffy job. Are they doing conductor, engineer, or other? And don't you have to be within 1 hour of a major rail yard?

Conductor and then engineer in a few years. No job safe eh? The country would shut down without us! EVERYTHING you own at one time or another came off a train.

No you can be up like 2 or 3 hours from one to get a job all depending on the company. Example I'm 10 minutes from mine but a guy I work ith lives in PA more then an 1 1/2 drive away!

I was just wondering what you all did for a living. I actually work on the equipment that loads all of those trains. Side loaders, RTG Cranes, Empty Handlers, etc. I'm in an apprenticeship program and the company pays for my schooling, books, tuition.. plus I get paid my hourly wage while I'm in school. We're on a overtime cut, so I'm having a hard time and am thinking of a second job.

I work for the City Of Toronto... I am a Sanitary Engineer... In otherwords.. Garbageman... But they don't use that term anymore..

I am trying to get into Heavy Mahine operation (excavators, bulldozers, bobcat/skidsteerer etc..) but as a new operator is hard to find that kind of work.. Once your in the pay is really good but hard to land a job.. So when the City called me for a job I took it so I canget my foot in the door.. The job possibilities are almost endless with the City so I took the first job call.. The money is pretty decent since it's the City ($25/hr) .. I work less then 32hrs a week, and I get paid for 40hrs/week.. I only work Tuesday to Friday... So I mean I dont mind it... I am going to try to get into By-law enforcement they pay is really good.
