cat or no cat?
I have a ZZP downpipe with a high flow cat, looking to trade it for a stock downpipe. Let me know if your interested. Just in case you wounder why, I'm sticking with all GMP parts because I want to sell it with the warnity in tact. Should make it easier to sell. Thanks. PM me.
I have the full 3" ZZP cat-less exhaust (mid-length header/DP and 3" cat-back). It isn't retarded loud...it isn't quit either though. My exhaust has a really deep sound, it doesn't sound much like a 4cyl. When you actually get on a throttle and start pushing air through the exhaust it gets loud in a hurry, however for normal driving and just cruising it isn't very loud. It also doesn't drone except when coasting against the engine between about 2200-2600rpm. 75mph on the highway = no drone for me.
All in all I love my cat-less exhaust.
My brother has my old 3" ZZP cat-less DP on his car SS/SC. He has a stock header ZZP 3" cat-less DP bolted to the GMPP cat-back. It's actually a little louder then my car's exhaust and doesn't have the really nice deep sound but it still doesn't sound bad. He has a hole in his exhaust right now and that causes his exhaust to be fairly obnoxious, it also drones like crazy on the highway. I really don't care for his exhaust setup at all but he likes it.
Basically depending on the setup you can go cat-less and still have a nice exhaust. I'm not sure how much power you really get out of it but going cat-less won't kill you if you have the right setup.

If you have a tuner around you that can up your timing a bit after removing your cat i would say yea do it, if not its not even worth it, the most gain your going to see when removing the cat is the ability to up the timing a bit.

Heres my 2 cents on it. I had a custom 3 inch exhaust with stock headers, no downpipe *just 3 inch exhaust instead of a downpipe*, no cat, and a magnaflow muffler. IT WAS LOUD!! Loud as all hell.
Currently I have a zzp 3inch header, zzp 3 inch downpipe, and a magnaflow cat, and a magnaflow muffler. Its really not all that loud to me, and it sounds very very mean. If you are just cruising shifting below 3k, your fine. If you floor it, you will hear it scream. I like the change, HOWEVER it feels to me as if the cat is restricting, or maybe the downpipe, is restricting the air somehow. I think I lost maybe .5lbs of boost give or take from the switch.
I am going to run it on the dyno on monday and let you guys know the changes.
