Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch????
Centerforce makes 2 clutchs for the COBALT SS/SC.. A Dual Friction and a DFX.. Does any one have any information about the strength of these clutchs??? I'm looking to upgrade my clutch some time later on and want to know if its any good? I've had the Dual Friction in my Jeep and worked fine. Exedy is wwwwaaaaayyyyy to expensive... Spec i heard doesn't have much holding strength...

From what I've heard, Centerforce's clutches do not hold up well in FWD applications. The only Spec clutches that are worth a damn supposedly are the "+" series ones, ClutchMasters finally got their design correct after the third revision (I had all three), and finally Exedy Hypersingle is by far the best out there no questions asked.
The Exedy Hypersingle comes with a billet aluminum pressure plate, light chromoly flywheel, and a 6-puck sprung disk. For a hair over $1000 it is truely worth the money since it works right the first time and every time! We'll worth not having to do trial by error testing and 7-15hours labor of installing a clutch each time until you get it right. Trust me when I say that if you save a bit and spend the money now, you own't regret it down the road!
Oh, and before I forget do not forget to change the slave cylinder when changing the clutch! Each time you do it too! It's almost guaranteed with these cars that it'll fail if you don't!

I bought the dfx from CED and have spent an exceptional amount of time on the phone with centerforce about the DFX clutch. From what I have gathered they aren't done testing it out yet and as CED has said Centerforces first estimates for the DFX is 450hp 450tq. They also said that it is possible that it could go above 500hp they can't put that in writing or say that as no street cobalt has put down that much power to test with. I would have to say that the DFX is AS good if not a bit better than the exedy. The exedy is a (more or less) drag clutch that engages hard and is a bitch on your left leg. The ball bearing technology from centerforce engages hard but doesn't change the peddle feel. I will be making a thread on my clutch install. For the price the DFX is hard to beat. It does come with a lightend flywheel.
