rundown:

get a coating done by a place that uses aluminized ceramic and not just some random place that claims to use good quality stuff. I personally use http://jetcoat.com for aluminized stuff. the guys at jetcoat recommend http://swaintech.com for any parts like valves, combustion chambers, in/ex runners etc... IF you absolutely want them, but they do not recommend it.

use aluminized ceramic on your header and downpipe if possible

get the piston tops PLATED ( i think the new thing in nascar is zirconium or zinc, i can't recall exactly but there is a shop in north carolina that i use, and that guy does hundreds of engines each year for 6 nascar teams, he does not have a website, nor does he advertise because he makes plenty of money through that and don't like dealing with the public too much)

get the skirts moly coated

you can get the bottoms of the pistons coated with an oil shedding, but i don't mess with that, usually in engines with squirters like ours, the benefits are negated

the do nots:

DO NOT use ceramic coating on the valves, intake runners, combustion chambers or top of the pistons

** i used to believe all that hype, but after a long discussion with the guy that does the piston plating, he explained case after case in the early 90's how nascar engines were failing from ceramic coated piston tops, because the application process of the ceramics would degrade the strength of the parts. and on top of that, detonation can be caused by the smallest fraction of a bit of carbon and ceramics give the carbon a rough surface to stick to. plating is completely smooth, so it has no where to stick. this guy has 2 degrees and over 20 years in metallurgy
