Intakes mess with fuel trims. So your car doesnt know what to do with the newly added airflow, so yes it is running lean from the ram air that is currently happening in your cars intake now. tune will fix... or a better intake, My hahn was pricey but never had a check engine light from it, and cant wait for a tune to see the beast of a car being unchained.

It is funny how tempremental alot of the forum members are on here. Don't worry about them. Do what you can do and get teh good information from the good ones who will take their time telling you the correct or informative way. What my friend ment to say was. Save your money for a while and buy the better tested and more reliable parts and upgrades for your car. Ebay is a great tool to use but can also burn you! Good luck and I think almost all of us have had the p0170 code pop up on our cars one time or another plus many more.

the reason you throw the code is because you are changing the maf location your cheap ebay intake is well cheaply made and all not bashing you its just you should have made a better decision and used the search button on here if you would like some advice take the ebay intake off and put your stocker back on and buy a good 3in intake from zzp or ottp

I don't understand why people have to respond like ******** any chance they get. In the parts world, you get what you pay but I'd get the code checked to be sure like someone said above it's probably just a lean code.

ok first off i would like to say my bad sometimes i guess i may come across a little brash without intending to but i would like to caveat off johns post by saying. you bought a ebay intake which is more then like plastic which is run into a plastic tube that goes to the tb.
plastic is not going to make your temps any cooler and defeat the purpose of the intake if you want to test the theory simply take a peice of foil and put it in the oven for 30 mins on 350 and i can garuntee it wont be hot that you cant touch it. put the plastic in the oven at the same temp for even half that time and good luck cleaning your oven.
dont mean to bash you but im actually trying to give you info from experience dont waste your time with ebay part for performance. ebay is a awesome resource for like visual upgrades cus some people pay 300-400 for headlights and i got gen 4 depos from ebay for 170 and i plugged them up and im happy with them so for visual **** yea ebay is great but performance **** no.
and i will be willing to bet you for the price you spent on that ebay intake if you had just searched here for a week or two you could have gotten a used Injen from someone in for sale thread. all in all guess what my whole point is you get what you pay for.
if nothing else post a thread here and say "hey im thinking about buying this what do you guys think" and you will get some flame responses then like you did here you will get some real no **** info responses on why you should or shouldnt get a particular part. again my bad for the brashness tho

Tin foil is thin enough that it cools off extremely fast. It still gets hot in there. If you put a 1/8" piece of metal (Like a pan....) in the oven, it will get hot and stay that way for a bit. Our intakes are not made of tinfoil.

Don't just assume the code is what everyone says it is. More than likely, yes, it's the lean code. If I were you though, I would go to an Autozone and get the CEL read so you know exactly what you're dealing with. First thing with diagnosis is trying to narrow down the issue to as few variables as possible. That's the wonderful thing about OBDII computers, they help a lot when it comes to diagnosis. Don't take it for granted...

what i do and we did for grand am racing, is wrap the intake with this stuff listed below. A redline (my driver) has a great big trailblazer intake so doesnt need much help other than wrapping it with this stuff....
SILVER REFLECTIVE FILM
This silver reflective film reflects up to 950 0F of radiant heat and has a continuous operating temperature of 450 0F. The film weighs about 8
ounces per square yard.
This film has a pressure sensitive adhesive that incorporates a fiberglass backing for strength and tear resistance. There is up to a 150 0F gradient temperature drop across the 3 -5 mil thick film during normal operating temperatures.
This film meets or exceeds the FAA 12-second vertical burn requirement.
Part Number: 1501-26
Standard width is 27 inches. Racer cost is $19.00 a linear foot.
Key Benefits:
Can easily be cut and configured to each chassis style
Easy to repair since it adheres to itself
Lightweight aerospace material
Easy to install and remove
