Chevy or not Chevy
Quick question feed back.. When I pick up my SS cobalt it will be the first chevy I ever bought. I am coming from2 previous hondas. Everyone at my work and home , except dad, is telling me, don't buy chevy.etc.... Guys at work are telling me not to but it cause it is a first gen..etc.. What do you guys HONESTLY think .. All reviews have been very good for this car and i am still getting it, i was just curious. I test drove it as well and loved it. It actually drove smooth and quieter than my civic..
Oh its a bitchin car, but then again its a Chevy. Which usually means that the when you try to sell it, you aint going to get crap for it, unlike a Honda, where it could have 160,000 you could get 5k for it.
who cares what they think, you are going to have a high quality car that is for the most part rare as of now, and you are going to get so many rubber neckers checking out your car you'll think you are driveing a farari. i've owned chevys my whole life, bout 12 so far, and i have yet to ever call a tow truck. this is the car that is going to convert lots of honda owners back to buying domestic where they belong. soon enough they will change their minds on your car...an if not tell them to pull their honda along side of yours and just blast them into submision
Chevy's aren't bad cars anymore.
In the 80s, GM produced some absolute crap. No question that an 89 Honda was 10x more reliable than anything GM made in 89. But that's nto really the case any more. A Malibu is just about as reliable as an Accord. GM cars in general are pretty on-par with the industry standard now. Don't believe me, go look at JD Power results.
It's all bad reputation now. Ask any of those people who told you to stay away from Chevy if they've bought or driven a Chevy in the last 10 years. I bet not. They WERE crap in the 80s and ealy 90s, but now people just think they are.
BTW - my two previous cars were Hondas.

I hear ya thanx for the feed back oh I love the SS if fact I told my dad that until a get I will be stopping at his work to test drive it till i get it... Now i just have to sell my car .107000 miles on it. this should be a blast.
Now if we were talking about the Cavalier/Sunfire i'd steer you in the other direction BUT this car is absolutely awesome really solid, I picked mine up saturday, April 30th and it is the best lol you'll love it...But this is coming from a person who's parents work at GM....
I dunno about all Chevy's but i have a '97 cavalier that has 88,000Mls on now, and I've done so much horrible **** to it its amazing its still alive and runs fine. and the cobalt is quite similar to it. I'm selling the cavy soon once i save up enough money for a cobalt SS. one of the dealers around here has one that has that american revolution sticker on the top of the windshield...hope its still there by then.

My SS has been fine so far except an message about low coolant when I start up. Which I fixed by adding some coolant to the full line.
As for the first generation stuff, the delta platform has been out for a year on the ION and Ion Redline (maybe longer). It's used on their on their Opel's in Europe. The engine is ecotec, which is proven, the transmission is Saab based. Most of the problems ppl have seen is computer related, and seems to be fixed with a reflash.
The SS/SC has so much more power than the Civic it's not funny. The civic is probably the most aenemic (spelling) small car on the road.
Like I have said my SS/SC has been flawless. Knock on wood.

Of course I have never owned anything but a chevy so I am bias. I am sure if you went to a honda, dodge, ford board you would get a different answer.

I finance my cars for 36 or 48 months usually. I had my S10 for about 1.5 years and I came out ahead on my loan by about 1,000 bux. I don't buy my cars for resale value, I buy them to drive and enjoy them.
