Clutch Slipping

I have 7500 miles on my 07 ss/sc and i think the clutch is going bad. i throttle on the car in 1st and banged 2nd and it jumped right to rev limiter so i let off the gas. when i got to my house all i could smell was clutch. did anybody else have their clutch start go bad with hardly any miles on them. I have the GM stage 2 kit. is that more power than what the stock can handle? I have the 100,000 mile warranty with the car. GM should cover the costs right?

i'm having the same problem. it only happens if i wind out first and try to shift fast to second. i've only been to the track once and my only mod is an injen intake. i'll have to replace the intake and take it into the dealer to see if they'll cover it

Getting the clutch covered under warrenty will be tough. I think a few people on the forum have been lucky enough, but most have not. You may be S.O.L.

Depends on your relationship with your dealer. So a search, there have been some really good threads on this topic. You'll find some good help there.

You won't get a clutch covered under warranty...so go clutch shopping, and stop beating on the car.....I have 26500 miles on my clutch, 2.5 pullied, all bolt ons, 100 octane (been 2.5 pullied for about 10-11,000 miles), and shes showing wear but probably not close to slipping

when i was cruising last night something similiar to this happend to me. i, too, rode 1st gear to about 6000RPMs and tryed to shift fast into 2nd and it just hit the rev limiter so i went and parked it cause it freaked me out and all i could smell was clutch. i guess i gotta be more careful... haha

Yeah around 500-600....Try not to go to a dealer...they might charge a LOT more....I was quoted $800 at my dealer.....So yeah anywhere between 500-600 is good, try to bargain with them too

It is what the car is made for after all. But I dont think that a clutch will be replaced under warranty... the words "Wearable Item" come to mind

oh well, now you just have an excuse to get a better one, right?

i dont have the money right now to spend 1000 or more on a clutch and install. i just got my JBP Vortex header, downpipe, intake, SSC springs and new wheels so the credit card is still smoking from that. I will see if they will cover it and if not drive it to it is totally ****. it seems fine under normal driving.

I don't race my car but my clutch has slipped since about 9K I'm at 17K took it to the dealership a few weeks ago. They accused me of drifting and racing my car and acknowledged that the clutch does slip after multiple accelerations and left it at that. So good luck getting the dealership to cover anything. I haven't been hard on my car at all and they don't want to cover anything.

Only about 2 days if you do it yourself. I started Saturday night around 8, worked till 2, then started the next day around 2-midnight. All that is left is bolting on a couple more things and bleeding it, about another hour, hour and a half left. Then once I make sure everything is good and solid, time to put on my hurst shifter, and drive around some more. If I have time the HE will be going on too.

same here, I have over 150 passes on the strip and my clutch was fine...well, it was on the way out, but thats what happens when you run it.

No problems jumping on the car, just try doing it from second on. It doesn't seem to like first gear very much, a lot of power, a little traction(or alot of wheelhop), and a short-as-**** gear mixed with a clutch that isn't top-notch just says problems. You're not the only one, lots of people have these problems. Personally I just wouldn't punch it in first (or at least let off at around 4k not 6k) if I intend on keeping the car healthy after the stuff I have seen happen here on the forums.

its driver error that kills the clutch. The clutch engages high so most people don't have there foot off the clutch when they go to fast shift hence the slipping.

Doc makes all the right points. Talking with a lot of the SS/SC owners in this area we've come to the conclusion that a lot of the people with slipping issues may be beating on their cars. Not to say that you are beating your car necessarily, but I think some well-conceived car-care will extend the life of these clutches. When people use language like "launching" it gives the impression that you're hard on your car.

I had the same problem about 3000 miles and if i got aggresive with 1 to 2nd shift it would slip. took it to the dealer they reimbursed me for the stock clutch and did a free install on my spec stage 2+ they told me it was nothing i did wrong. GM Tech says the recommend use of a performance clutch with stage 2, told the dealer the stock unit doesn't have the clamping force for it. BUT you know some people here will insist i don't know how to drive.
