Clutch and Warranty

I have heard a lot of people talking about their clutch dying on them. Well mine is doing the same thing now. It slips pretty bad for a couple seconds on hard shifts.

Has anyone had any luck getting one replaced under warranty??

Clutches are not normally covered under warranty. Unless it is physically broken. If it's just worn and slipping --- you'll have to pay for it.

yup, usually not covered because the dealer will call it either normal wear and tear or abuse

Well it definitly isn't because of wear and tear or abuse. I think I have only launched the car 3-4 times from a dig and when I beat the hell out of the car it is on the highway. The car only has 11,000km (approx 6800mi) on it. I am going to bring it in on Tuesday and I will start a good war if they don't acknowledge the problem. It is 100% unacceptable for them to have put that clutch in our vehicles. When stock HP and TQ and destroying them, there is something seriously wrong.

Mine slipped real bad twice, during 2nd gear run-up through 5500rpm. No gang bangin' the gears, no burn outs, etc. Just plain and simple: the engine over powered the clutch. Car only had 4k miles at the time. I took it to the shop and they could reproduce the slippage. I took the shop manager for a ride and couldn't get it to slip either. Car's been fine since, but I think GM didn't factor enough margin into this design. A little more pressure plate force or a slightly bigger clutch plate would do the trick. I'm just waiting for it to give out, then I'll replace it with a Centerforce Stage 2 or 3.

if you were in the US you could file a complaint with the national highway transportation safety board... the more complaints they get, the mor elikely they are going to make gm put out a tsb on the issue

i'd say it's a level 3 job between a scale of 1-5, and about 10 hours

I can do the replacement myself. I just don't want to fork out the money for a new one.

Hey Matt thats ****.....I have had my clutch slip a bit when racing at Cayuga but I agree the clutch should be alot stronger for the power the car makes. The SRT-4 I drove was a better clutch setup.....

Just to let you know, GM will charge you A LOT for the stock clutch. I wouldn't be surprised if a Spec Stage 2 clutch was only $50-$100 more. Trust me, you would be better off getting an anftermarket clutch.

With that being said, my clutch is fine. It has gotten a little soft though because the guys at the shop don't know how to freakin drive a stick. Those *******. I was so pissed. But I baby the clutch. I have 8,600 miles on my car and the clutch doesn't slip one bit. One thing I never do is give it gas while changing gears, I just let the rpms drop to where it stops in the next gear and let out gently. No gas. However I am saving up for either a Spec Stage 2 or 2+ because I don't know if my story will be the same after I buy the GM Stage 2 kit.

My clutch is F'ed. Its been slipping for at least 1k miles now. I just hit 5K on the car today. I talked to the guy at the dealership today, and explained the problems I was having and what I wanted done to the car. He told me to make a list up, and give him a call sometime in the next or so when I'm ready to bring the car in. He will give me a rental car (probably another impala) and that my problems will be tended to.

My clutch has felt funny since the day I drove the car off the lot. The clutch engages only in the last 1inch of travel. So say there’s a 4" up travel on the clutch pedal, the clutch doesn’t even begin to grab till its 1" from the top, and it grabs all at once. The guy at the dealership said that my clutch probably wasn’t adjusted right from the factory and needs adjusted, and this probably wasted my clutch. When they look at it, they will find out.

My clutch doesn't engage until the very last inch or two also. It sucks. I remember driving my brothers 2.2 base coupe. OMG SO EASY TO DRIVE. The clutch was just plain easy and much shorter distance than our clutch pedal. I can get amazingly smooth shifts out of my brothers car. With my car, every now and then I bounce and hop a bit.

sounds like me, i made a list of problems and the distrcit manager is in this tues to look at them and hopeully take care of them, no clutch issues, just cosmetic and that stupid idleing crap, i think there are some faulty clutches out there if u say it felt wierd from day one cuz mine feels good even after hard drives and i have almost 5k on mine good luck with that man, what i also did was print out a bunch of stuff off this site to slap them in the face if they do have the ***** to give me any sorta problem.

This was my first stick car and I've had it since may 05 and have 11,000 miles on it and the clutch doesn't slip. I can't help but to power shift at least once or twice a a week through 3rd gear and I show no signs.

How do you know if the clutch is slipping, what are some signs. I have never had a clutch slip on me and if I have never noticed it?
