Cooling Issue..

Ok, so my car has been this way as long as I can remember, it just doesn't seem right though.

The electric fans won't ever run unless the AC is on, it will heat up to 223 without the fans ever coming on but as soon as I turn the AC on it will cool back off to <190.

Is the sensor broke possibly? Are they all like this? If so that's a shitty ******* design.

sounds like a sensor isnt working, the PCM tells the fans to turn on at certain intervals unless you tuned it in HPtuners to come on soon/later.

Fans aren't supposed to kick on till 225 iirc. You can change that with hp tuners. My tuner changed mine to kick on at 200.

First fan should kick on at 190. 2nd fan not till like 225. Ive never seen temps higher than 226 since the 2nd fan kicked in and dropped it to 185.

My fans don't come on at all unless the AC is turned on.

Its not a shitty design...The car is designed and made to run that way. If it did that and it wasnt designed to run that way then yes i would have to agree with you. But the ecotec motor likes to be hot!

But heat soak sucks, you sit there for like 3 minutes or drive in traffic for a very short time and suddenly your coolant is 210+ with IAT2 of 150+

your sensor seems bad if you have to turn the AC on to get it to work.

Its not an sensor
He says it goes up to 223 without fans kicking on
The reason that is because it goes on at 225

Thats the best idea, just dont let the temps get over 250. I think these fans have two different relays for speed 1 and speed 2 (or the difference is in the fan, cant remember for sure). Your fan one might be dead.
