Corsa SS cat-back

After seeing a recent post by Maven about Corsa Cobalt catbacks, I decided to give them a call.

Not finished yet, but a cat back is in development and will be available in a couple months.

Maven's post said it was a modified Corsa catback that he used on an SS, so maybe we can get something sooner. I'm just waiting for a reply...

I can't wait to feel this car when it can breath!

The Corsa system I installed on a friends car was straight off of a Grand Am Cup car.....the systems are (currently) designed and distributed only for the GAC cars...its a bespoke setup that needed mods to go in a production car. I am going to be contacting my friend in GM to see if he can help me get with Corsa to get a run of them made...maybe 10 or 20 max....hopefully this will happen and I can help the guys dying for exhaust...

I found a full 3 inch cat back on an SRT4 forum.

Its made by Custom Tubes Inc. out of New Hampshire. He posted pics of a 3inch mandrel cat back magnaflow 4"tip muffler, installed on an Ion Redline. I called and talked for a little, heres what I gathered.

He also plans on making a header/downpipe, when the guy brings the redline back. He was unsure if the Redline exhaust would work on the CobaltSS. I informed him that on Magnaflows website, they share the same part number for their upcoming catback 16619.

Other than that redline, I'm the only guy to inquire. So he took all my info. and is to call me anytime now with a price.

I know of this places work, they made Jbody turbo headers for Johnny Mac. VERY NICE!!!

I told him as soon as he gets the info to me, I can post it on this forum. Just let me get mine, BEFORE you swamp this guy with orders.

I'll post those pics when I get home...

I spoke briefly with the head of Racing R&D @ Corsa and they state while there is a lot of interest in exhaust for the SS there will be no street legal system for the car anytime soon(sounded like a year...just a guess) I am still waiting for him to call me back regarding getting some custom systems built....stay tuned.

Well, I would not hold my breath if I were you. Corsa told the Impala SS forum folks back in '00 that the r&d was done on a catback for the big cars and would be produced in a few months. Fast forward 2 years; Then Corsa wrote (in answer to a request for a catback) that r&d was starting on the Impala and would be produced in about 6 months. Last year, Corsa wrote that they were starting r&d on the 94-96 Impala's (again, after a member requested an exhaust) (the same r&d that they claimed they had finished 4 years before, and then started <again?> 2 years before, last I checked, the 94-96 cars didn't magicially change their exhaust systems after they sat around for a couple years.

They were not confused by the w-body front wheel drive versions, they simply lied. Over and over again.

If you wait for a Corsa exhaust, you will be waiting a long, long time.

Thats why I am not waiting. The only advantage to a system like Corsa or Magnaflow is it's a kit and easy to do in your garage. If the place I am going to works out I will see about them making some kits for other members.

We can make a cat-back system fairly easy with your choice of muffler and with or without a resonator. Only problem is we have a compression bender not mandrel. And we would need a cobalt. We do full catbacks several times a week it wouldnt be a big deal.

the only flaw id say would be that the clamps come loose quite often. Does any one know if you can weld it solid
