Couple quick questions about Stage 2 and GMP Exhaust

First question, do I NEED to get it dealer installed to maintain factory warranty?
Question applies to both the Stage kit, and the exhaust.

Also, if I want to get the GMP Manifold/Catback, what would I use for a downpipe to keep the 2.25" all the way back?

*I'm a newb, correct or flame me if necessary*

Stage Kit: Has to be flashed at a dealership. Other parts of the install can be done by you, i think.
GMPP Exhaust: no, you can do it. The exhaust itself comes with 12,000 mile warranty, but if installed at a dealer, it gets the same warranty as the entire car, i think.

I would say go with the ZZP header and 2.5" downpipe, then you go from 2.89, down to 2.5, down to 2.25... Theres a clear image header that should be coming out soon too that might be worth looking into

Thanks John

I'll be ordering the parts within the next couple days, would it be worth my while to go with the ZZP manifold - 2.5 downpipe - 2.5 catback?

I think the GMPP exhaust would do you fine. I am not an expert though, bump for some more opinions.

I think the ZZP header, 2.5" downpipe and then the GMPP exhaust (sport or touring) would be a good setup for anything under 275hp, maybe even 300. But, like I said, I am not an expert so someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Main thing, just don't get 3.0". It is probably beneficial to run 2.5" catback if you have power levels higher than 250WHP or so; it all depends on the rest of your setup.

My dealer told me in person he did not care if I modified my car as long as I don't do go too far. I asked him about individual mods and this is what he said (I'm not saying this is everywhere just what I was told at this specific dealer) he would warranty whether I put it on or them:

GM Stage II
GMP exhaust
Dual pass

He also said he would not give me a hard time about:

A slightly smaller pulley
Trans and engine mounts (urethane or solid) except if it shook my interior to hell he said he wouldn't be able to explain that one to GM.

My setup will be...

GMPP Stage II
Injen CAI
andddd...whichever exhaust in warranted?

As soon as my warranty is up, I'm going ***** deep though :O

Why avoid the 3" exhausts? They are normally fairly good flow improvements for most FI vehicles; are they not?

Just not apply well to the cobalt? (at that hp range? 245-250ish whp)

First off if you want one of the warrantied exhaust (GMP) they aren't 3 inch anyways. Other than that, you are right, 3 inch is not a good match for what your setup is going to be. With the proper exhaust size you will be able to flow plenty of air while still maintaining the exhaust gas velocity.

You want to avoid a 3.0" exhaust because unless you are pushing over 300hp, it will mess with the exhaust gas velocity, and end up hurting your low end power...

Installed at dealer = full coverage under vehicle warranty.

Installed yourself = 12 months parts warranty.

Dont spend the money on stage 2 and then ruin it cheaping out on the install.
