Cryo2?????

I came across this http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...roup?Ntt=CRYO2 and wanted to know if any body had heard of it before, or know anybody that does. im a little new to the "bottle" game and any advice would be great.

yea, it's carbon dioxide injection. Kinda like nitrous except it uses CO2 instead of N2O

^^^^^^^wrong forum maybe????? lol, anyway, cry02 basically can be used to the same effect as nitrous, you can supercool intercoolers with it, as well as get the intake adapter, which has a bubble in it that the air flows over and super cools it. this is much safer than running nitrous, as all it is is compressed air. i was thinking about playing with it myself this summer....

hell yeah, its a cheap way to super cool and help condense the incoming air and its better than just anything like an ice bath. But you will not get the gains that nitrous will give you. I bet you could get a little bit of an hp boost for our 2.0L SC, but i'm sure its good for maybe up to 20 hp on a hot day.(i may be wrong i have never tested one of these, but it says approximately 50 degree fahrenheit drop plus intercooler spray and fuel line cooling and my formula is about 2hp per 10 degrees so...).

My friend and i had an idea similar to this where we'd run lines through the intake from a paintball CO2 canister to help create some gains, never went through with it though. Reason we didn't is that we had all engine, no SC or turbo, and these systems are much more useful and efficient with intercooled SC or turbo cars.

I would like to hear of someone who has used one of these setups though, i'm interested to know how effective they are, and how long they last and how long you ahve to turn them on for before you can see gains, thanks

This only cools the heat exchanger, and the intake air. It does not add fuel or more oxygen to the engine like n2o. It is just an additional cooler.

This is NOT to be injected into the engine. It just to cool like "Cobalt Supercharged" said.

it would be more interesting if we could somehow get it to inject into our aftercooler.... we would see much better gains if we could supercool the air there...... perhaps someone will come up with some kind of coil or something we can put in the intake manifold.....

There are 2 pieces. One goes in the actual intake and cools the air. It's like a tear drop shape and the CO2 goes through it. The other part is a ring that sprays the CO2 on the heat exchanger up front. I think it only added like 3 or 5 whp on an RSX Type-S. I'll have to find the magazine article.

You can piece this together for about $150. Go to your local welding shop to buy the co2 tank. Get a solenoid and switch on ebay. You can either buy a co2 regulator or piece together the barbed pipe fitting that screws into the tank. Use air compressor air hose that you can get at home depot for next to nothing. The heat exchanger in the intake might take some though but probably super easy to make.

I guess the big question is does the heat exchanger thing restrict airflow? The engine doesnt actually ingest the co2. I would guess this is better setup as an IC sprayer or with the fuel line chiller deal and not int he intake flow.
