Custom Exhaust

Ok guys well Imma be getting an exhaust within the next month and none of the shops around my area are able to do mandrel bends. I was wondering if I did a 3" exhaust, would the bends on the exhaust actually take it down to a 2.75" or what?? Im wanting to put a Dynomax Ultra Flow Welded muffler on it with no resonators.

don't get one that's not mandrel bent. that defeats the whole point. if none of the shops can do one, just buy an exhaust.

I dont really like any of the aftermarket exhaust sounds for our car. All im wondering is what would the bends be knocked down to if I had a 3" exhaust made.

yea, but you're going to be intentionally creating the restriction that you're trying to get rid of.. the point is to get RID of restriction, not make restriction. and nobody can tell you what size it will get scrunched down to. but trust me it's not worth it. and, if you're that picky with your exhusts, who says you're gonna like the custom one?

aight i know what your saying but what im trying to get is the stock is what 2.5?? with a 3" yeah its still not gonna be a true 3" exhaust but wouldnt it flow alot better then the stock?? im not saying that this is the perfect exhaust out there and that ima like it but i always like to be different and have different setups then others.

That's the worst way to even imagine getting a exhaust system done.

You're talking about crush bends. Either way, it's a distruption in exhaust flow which is a bad thing no matter what size it goes down to at the bend.

Also, anything over 2.5" is not necessary.

Then get a resonator...

what i'm saying is that it's CREATING restriction instead of getting rid of it. it defeats the point, totally. just don't get a crush bent exhaust.

take a straw, pinch it in 3 different spots, and try to blow through it. see what i'm saying? now, take a SMALLER straw, and don't pinch it. the smaller one will blow harder because it's not restricted.

Exactly.

You would be creating backpressure which is what you're trying to get rid of.

Mandrel will produce on average 3-5% better gains then crush but "Shrugs". Waste your money if you want. I'll take a monroe custom crush bent 3" exhaust for 150 over a 300 dollar mandrel bent one.

lol what?

where are you getting this information from?

Do I need to post pictures of comparisons of crush bends and mendral bends?

What's the point of getting a new exhaust system for PERFORMANCE if you're going to just get it crushed?

I'd gladly go head to head on the dyno after i get my exhaust with a mandrel exhaust to see how much better power it produce's.

If you want to waste your time, sure.

I love it how you're willing to waste your time and money to prove something as obvious as this. You honestly know what is better but you think that "it's a waste of money" so you're going to waste your money to prove it. Irony.

Alright well I wasnt trying to cause no big argument over this just asking a simple question. Now the pacesetter exhaust is mandrel bent and its a 2.5", I believe it also bolts right up to the stock downpipe too. Its the cheapest exhaust out there that I have found that is mandrel bend and 2.5. Would it be hard for me to get the muffler I want and just have it welded onto the the pacesetter exhaust to replace the muffler after I get it. I know its gonna be an expensive exhaust in the end but sometimes you have to pay for what you want.http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku Heres the muffler i want to get. I know I might have to get a center inlet/outlet but this is the style. The cfm on it is 1100 which is good. Its a really high flow muffler and Ive always been a fan of dynomax and these stlye mufflers. I had one on my eclipse which was a good and the most distinct sound around.

D4u2s0t and NJHK both erep for helping thanks.

thanks, and you're welcome!

it wouldn't be hard at all. the muffler on the pacesetter is actually seperate, so you can just leave the muffler that comes with it off and put a new one on. piece of cake, any exhaust shop can do that in about 10 minutes.

yes, it's mandrel bent. the reason why it's cheap is that it's not stainless steel. i've had mine on for a year, went through a new jersey winter and there is not the slightest sign of rust though. just make sure everything is super tight and you'll be ok.
