custom intake

this weekend im going to make a custom intake. i wanted the filter to go straight on the throttle body but its too big. so i'm going to get a 90 degree elbow and put it down behind my grill. if i remove my breather line from my intake and put a breather filter on my vavle cover i should be good right? i would weld a fitting on the elbo but i dont have access to welding material.

dreams of a custom exhaust crushed by the ABS box. gotta love the spots GM puts stuff. forgot about the MAF. didnt even think about it. i was going to just throw on the air filter until i got my jbp intake and it was too much of a hassle so i said forget it. is it easy to take out that airbox? and is it safe for the filter to be open?

For that matter, get rid of those pesky lobes in your M62. All they do is block airflow.

lmao o jeez... do some research... its kinda a pain in the ass to actually get to the filter due to the fact that you have to take the wheel off and the whole fender linner.

yeah. i stated that i was thinking of just throwing on the filter until i got my intake. but at the time i was too frustrated and cold. i'm going to put it on tomarrow. you think just a filter will make a difference.

Search for "airbox mod" in the how-to section, that'll tell ya everything you need to know. Personally, I think you should get one of the Cold Air Intake kits, because, well, I'm a name brand ***** and they look really good, and some people have said that the actual kits make the whine louder than the mod.

You can't just live with stock until you get the cai? It's like 230 bucks.

if you forgot about the maf, i wouldn't attempt to do any custom parts till you learn more about cars and how they work. that's a HUGE thing to not think about. you can also look for used intakes for sale in the classified threads.

i kno about cars dude. as i was getting the material ready i realized i didnt make a spot for the MAF. that has nothing to do with me not knowing about cars.

even if i didnt kno about cars. thats half the reason this site is even up. for kids wanting to learn how to do stuff. and witht he responses you's give not all of you but alot of you. dont really help. fortunatly i kno a good deal about them. you guys on here need to be more helpful and stop being criticizing ********.

Airbox mod does make a slight difference with the supercharger sound and the throttle response. Its well worth the $30, as for intakes, i think 3" is definitely the way to go, i hear of a lot of people including myself throwing codes with the average intake.

A 3" gives more space for the maf airflow and keeps from maxing the MAF frequency as much, it also leans out the tune very slightly which GM stage 2 tune needs. I'm getting a rebel auto worx 3" intake myself, before that i was definitely considering the JBP, I'd be glad to hear how that goes

(i currently have the ebay intake) I only throw codes when i hit redline usually and thats due to excessive airflow which maxes out the MAF throwing the p0103. Otherwise performance is appromitely that of my previous airbox mod.

I have the K&N Typhoon and I go WOT to redline every few days it seems, through rain/snow/whatever, and I have yet to even get a hint of a problem.

if you ge a JBP intake, you will be paying way too much. Just get an ebay one or a cheaper name brand one.

i was looking at the typhoon. but idk. i might end up going with that if i dont spend the 300 for the JBP. what was your horse power increase with that intake?

I'm not sure how you're going to get it behind the grille. it's a ggreat Idea and that's how they are run on 350z but I dont think there is enough room for that to happen. I may be wrong though I haven't been under the hood of my car in a while.

there was no reason to get offended. i didn't say to not do anything, or not to ask questions. I simply said if you're going to go custom, learn more before you do it because forgetting about the maf is huge!

i also suggested buying a used intake to keep the cost down. nothing I said was out of line, and I have helped out tons of members. i've done many local installs for free, because I like to help people learn.

i meant nothing bad by my post, and if you took it that way, then i'm sorry. but i wasn't trying to be a dick.

I haven't dyno'd the car at all, so the most I can tell you is that it's noticeable in the highly scientific seat of the pants method.
