Custom tuning question

My friend just got his mustang tuned for like $400, he got an extra 20whp and the guy set him up with a switch that changes his settings for stock to the more aggressve 20+hp setting on the fly. My friend ask the shop guy about my car and he said he could give me an extra 50-100whp by tuning it and give me a switch too. Does that sound true? what would a custom tune do to my warrenty? and does anyone have thiers tuned and get numbers like that?

I have never heard of a custom tune putting out those kinds of numbers (50-100whp). Some tunes can't be detected by warranty, but if it is, then it would your warranty if it led to damages. What program does the guy use?

I find 50-100 HP hard to believe. That is 25-50% over stock. Usually tunes are good for 5-10% added on. Fast06SS said he got 16 HP and 12 TQ when he used HPTuners (he was modded), so I would think that is the ballpark you would be looking at.

Diablo doesn't do the Cobalt. The only programmer available for us is HPTuner.

Diablo does Chevy, Dodge, Ford etc but hasn't gotten into the PCM of the Cobalt yet.

well i would agree with him if you had say a 2jz under the hood, or maybe a powerstroke turbo diesel or something like that, but 50whp with just a tune is in no way possible on your car.

GODDAMN!

Yo for serious, if I could get 50-100whp out of a tune, i think all i would need is that!

As far as I know HPtuners is the only tuning software out that can tune the 'Balts...

...Atco eh? Where is this place at cuz Atco is closer to Pennsville than LI, NY lol

I also never heard of Diablo tuning for the Cobalt, and still, 50-100whp is a lot. Atco is about 5 miles off of Rt. 73 about 3 miles south of the Berlin Circle.

The larger the motor the more possible gains and usually the more consrvative the factory settings. A smaller motor usually will pick up about the same % gain but not same power. take for example when I tune 06 427 Z06s I can pick up to about 40RWHP with a tune alone this is a 7.0L motor that is about 10% gain but usually less. Even if you pick up about 5% gain that is significant and you WILL notice it. GMs currently cannot have a flip chip for these PCMs. When I tune a motor I make sure that there in no power left on the table, it is completely optimized. Your cas run very rich from the factory, TOO RICH. I set the timing curve and fuel to where it needs to be to keep from detonation.

BTW I wille up in Gettysburg,PA area tuning if anyone is interested. I am going to be a sponsor of this board starting today. I currently am a sponsor of LS1tech.com LS1GTO.com and Digitalcorvettes.com please check out my reputation if you have ANY doubts.
Thank you and God Bless
