If you go direct and save $200 they won't come with the special coating Intense has put on them. That coating is worth the extra money because it'll help prevent detonation, and keep the pistons cooler. JE and other top brands are going to this as well. Just figured I'd give you a heads up.

The pistons and headgasket are the weak points of the engine. After that, the vavletrain and balance shafts should be replaced to raise the revs above 7000-7200 rpms.

is raising the rev limiter that beneficial? i figured it would cause more problems in the end, especially with heat?

crossed over, PM me if you want to chat on the valvetrain and rpm raising. I don't want to invade a piston thread with valvetrain stuff.

Personally, I wouldn't want anyone other than the manufacturer doing ANYTHING to my pistons. They designed them, they tested them.

These coating are to increase power and reliablility. When you start making big power and heat, just the run on the mill stuff doesn't always work. If you want the best you will pay for it. Will it work without the coating, absolutely. Would it be even better if the part stayed cooler, prevented detonation cause it stays cooler, and holds up to extreme conditions, it certainly would.

If the coating is that much better, why didn't the manufacturer apply it?
What are the quality controls for applying the coating?
Who monitors the thickness of the product being applied?

Then again, this is about where to find the cheapest set of diamond racing pistons, not debating the worth of applying a coating to the piston.
I believe the question has been answered and the reason its sold cheaper at the manufacturer's site vs. an aftermarket supplier.

Intense would have to chime in on this one. There are many coatings and procedure available. I'm not exactly sure which one they use.

Went and asnwered my own question with a moly coating on the sides, and a ceramic coating on the tops.
