difference in stock and aftermarket downpipe

like the title says. what would the difference in power and sound be between these options?

1. zzp shorty header, stock downpipe, custom cat back with magnaflow res and muffler

2. zzp shorty header, aftermarket high-flow catted downpipe, custom cat back with magnaflow res and muffler

ideas?

the downpipe is the most restrictive part to the exhaust, obviously upgrading this will show greater yeilds.

I have a ZZP catted pipe and it is made of quality components. They use Magnaflow cats and all TIG welded joints. I purchased one after a friend has nearly 30k on it with 0 issues. The flex that they use is double walled too.

Now the CA header I have is OK but they use low grade stainless that a magnet easily sticks to and it hits the lower coolant pipe without modification.

With the GMPP exhaust its a little too loud for my liking but I am old.... 12 years ago it would have sounded pretty good There is no rasp but its just loud.

What he said.

I ran a catted 2.5" ZZP for miles and miles with ZERO issues...and it was on an SS/SC before I bought it.

Get a better than stock downpipe and header, then worry about the rest of the junk.

Does anyone have a pic of the stock downpipe?

I bought my car used, and it already had the stage 2 kit and an upgraded engine mount.

I threw it up on one of my families lifts and the downpipe on my car looks very large. I'm thinking it may not be stock, but to be honest I'm not sure.

Is the cat round or rectangular shaped? Factory cats are a round canister and most aftermarket cats are rectangular.

didnt you buy my header? man you shoulda let me know you wanted a DP i have a 3" catless that i could of combined shipping on! it's actually not paid for yet someone is supposed to pay tomorrow... if they dont i'll pm you... but i promised him i'd give him till tomorrow...

oh and some quick info... if your trying to stick with a high flow cat instead of catless for smog or cel issues... expect a check engine light and failed smog with zzp's high flow cat... trust me been there done that... it's a magnaflow that too high flow for a 2.0 and it wont even get hot enough to burn off emission's... go catless and have somone turn of the p0420 code and cot... thats your best bet and best gains

thats not bashing by no means, its a real experience that happened.

im not saying all ZZP products are **** or even all of their header/downpipe combos are ****, i am clearly stating that my friend purchased the highest ZZP header/downpipe combo, and within a month, the bolts they sent broke, and the cat blew and flex pipe broke. could have been a monday header/downpipe who knows

they also never replyed to his 5 phone calls or 2 emails...

no bashing, just real experience.

eh, thats like them sending you the wrong 10 dollar spark plugs, and then asking you to spend $8 dollars to send them back so they could send you something different............oh wait that happened to me with ZZP............LOL

They had an issue with the downpipe breaking at the flex pipe, but they have since corrected that................

and the Clear IMage issue mentioned above is the first time I have ever heard that........

Please stay away from ZZP's exhaust parts... I, along with MANY other people, have had major problems from their header/downpipes.

For me, bolts broke, header warped, cat smashed in when I get it (Packaging was unharmed)... etc... Clear image, vibrant, whoever, just not zzp.

I am not bashing the vendor or the quality of materials used to make them in any way.
I love zzp and they offer great products but their exhaust is definitely their weak spot.

do you need a magnaflow cat with ZZP DP if you already have a GMPP exhaust?

FROM ZOOMER IN ANOTHER THREAD

My guys found a flaw in the manufacturing process of the mid length downpipe that was corrected. I don't know when it was implimented but here is the situation.

http://www.zzperformance.com/miscftp/IMG_6840.jpg

We were welding the flexes to the flange and this meant that only the red portion was welded to the flange. Failures could then occur when the ring broke off of the flex. Now we weld them to pipe so that the blue and red portions get welded and then weld the pipe to the flange.

We are changing our warranty on this product to 2 years for people that already bought it, we will pay for return shipping of pipes that break and for people that had to pay shipping already, we will issue you a coupon code to our site. I apologize for the potential issue, for the people that have experienced failures and appreciate the chance to continue serving the community with improved products.
