discontinuing stage kits?
well today when i went out to get my stage kits put on the parts guy told me that i am very lucky to have gotton the stage 2 kit. he said that they are on backorder now and that gm may not make any more for the rest of the year because of the demand. i was like wtf. why would they stop making somthing that people want. he said there is only like couple dozen he can find right now in the states that are at dealer ships and they want over 1000 dollers for them or dont want to sell them at all. i got lucky and got mine form some where in pa a delership sold it to mine at cost. but what do you guys think of this. and why would they do that.

That sucks! maybe GM is freaking out because every cobalt is going to have one and they dont want to deal with the warranty? Or maybe they underestimated the market and when they do come back out they will probably be more money? Or maybe its an act of god. who knows.

You never know with GM. They may be so far in the hole right now, that continuing this kind of service is hurting them more than helping them. I doubt this is the case though, but if they are concerned about warantee issues, and the chance of an onslaught of people start complaining about broken parts and things effected with their stage kits, well.... They could be in trouble.
Or maybe, just maybe they figured out their clutch problems were going to cause chaos after just months of their GM Stage kits being installed...

Just buy an Intense kit. It's cheaper, makes more power, and can be changed to do what you want and how you want. Including those peskey catalytic converter and misfire codes. The only reason I would buy the GM kits are for the belts. But Intense has a cheaper fix for that too...larger idler pulley. Same effect.

LOL that dealer or aftermarket parts installer has you by the nuts and is twisting. They are making it seem like the kits are not going to be around so more and more will scramble to buy one and end up paying high dollar for the parts. Word of mouth travels fast and they know that so if they even get one gullible buyer that will make money.

They wont discont. the upgrade packages. Its a like when Sony or X-Box released their new systems, there just wasnt enough to go around. It takes time to get everything going right.

Facts
1) Gm would not have released these kits if they did not believe that our cars could RELIABLY handle the extra hp. "which we all know they can"
2) Gm like any other business WILL take advantage of the supply and demand.
3) IT IS only a matter of time before more of these kits become available, I got a call from my dealer yesterday telling me that my kit was finally in. I ordered it 2 months ago but it finally showed up. Just order your kits have a little faith and it will happen to you.
Also STOP comparing these stage 2 kits to intense. Yes in some cases intense has been proven to give you more hp " I have also seen a lot of dynos that prove its about the same", but the fact is stage 2 is WARRANTIED.
All i know is gm is not known for their reliability and I would not strap on a piggy back and add more boost to a 30 thousand dollar car without a warranty. If other people out there can afford it power to them... but let me ask you this I LOVE my cobalt ss/sc and everything but if you can afford to risk a 30 thousand dollar car what the **** are you doing driving a cobalt???
Why not go buy a Mustang GT, EVO, STI, or any other of the more expensive cars out there....

I highly doubt that GM would shoot themselve in the foot like that. It was bad enough that they took so long to get them released. If anything they would probably stop Stage 1 and reprogram it to reject higher boost from smaller pulleys like the car does stock. That way they could sell more Stage 2 units because people couldn't get Stage 1 and then buy a smaller pulley else where for less.

... yeah, in all honesty, GM is most likely behind on producing the kits. not to say that the parts are hard to come by, but they can only use GM parts. give it a month or two and you will see staged kits everywhere
