Does this timing chain look like its ok?
Here is where I'm at with Dylan's car. I want to make sure that the timing chain is set correctly before I button everything up. There is the small hiccup (click click) that Im concerned with. The teeth do not jump, the tensioner is in correctly, and the guides are all torq'd down to spec.
Please give me your thoughts, thanks

well, thats why i havent =)
I'm looking for input as to what direction to go in. I keep leaning towards a tensioner issue. The tensioner is out all the way. I've taken it out like 8 times to make sure. It doesnt come out any more? If I take it a notch down it comes apart
Alpha may have figured out what is wrong...
Seems that I may be missing a hydraulic piece.

It needs to be filled with oil before you can tell for sure. If its dry then it will collapse. I also don't see any missing pieces on that tensioner.
new tensioner as well
neener neener.
Quick way to find out is just fill it up with some oil and try compressing it by hand. If you have a piece missing, you shouldnt have any more resistance than the spring.

lol, glad i could try to help Area =)
the only piece i didnt photograph was the small plunger that sits in the tensioner to act as a guide for the spring

thanks, didnt realize there was one. Know what they run off hand?
also, do you guys feel confident that its some kind of tension issue only (if anything) and that i can put the oil pan, front cover, etc back on the car? Or should I wait?
If it matters there are 78lb dual valve springs in there. Not sure if that is adding to how dramatic its turning over.

do the colored links line up? 10 and 2 for a quick reference with number one at tdc and the crank pulley timing mark lined up on the front cover. the cam gears have marks on them that say int and exh. more or less
Area beat me to it. Its just not having oil in the tensioner that is allowing the cams to 'spring' forward or back like that because of the cams interacting with the valve springs. nothing more i can say that hasn't been said already but double and tripple check your timing and you are on your way.

I just dont want to button it back up to find i have to take it back apart.

Ask around. You and I would get along famously then.
so i added some oil to the tensioner/tensioner bolt and it is a little tighter but still has a little bounce to it like in the vid.
For everyone.....If this was your car would you run with it? If not what would you do?

Mine was exactly like that when I put my engine back together. I just cranked the motor a few times with the starter with valve cover off and fuel punp relay pulled to watch the chain and after one or two revolutions oil pressure worked its way into the tensioner and the chain was super tight through a full revolution. As long as the timing marks are lined up you are fine.

Thanks. Its good to hear from people who have gone through the same thing.
I spoke to the boss and he said (based on word from Sunburst and you guys on this thread) that we are going to roll with it.
Tomorrow goes on the front cover, oil pan, tensioner bracket and Alt, etc to do the final putting together.
