Don't know what to do for my next mod

I've been building up my ss/sc the last few years and need to get a little more out of it on 92 octane My current engine mods are

Tvs 2.7
#80's
K&n CAI
Vibrant 3-2-1 header
3'' catless down pipe
Magna flow cat back
Duel pass
Zzp fmhe
Arp head studs
Devils own meth injection 12g nozzle
Hp tuned
Made 302 whp on the dyno. Would love to see 320 Is there any options more cost effective besides cams or ported head. Money is tight now a days Car beat my buddies bored and stroked 5.4 stang but now he has spray. Would love to be with him at least

A new tune. With those mods you should be making more than 300whp

Shane from Db performance in Rogers mn He's a very reputable tuner. You may have seen a couple subarus sporting there logo on the recent rally episode of top gear He's tuned some of the fastest cars out there

Is there anything you think he could be missing that I could inform him about. Like certain things the cobalt likes compared to other cars? I did tell him to keep bumping up the timing after the meth install and gained some there. After reading about how much our cars like timing.

I know he's an experienced tuner, but clearly not for Cobalts. Every platform is different and unless you want him to learn on your car and chance something going wrong to learn why not just switch tuners?

raise the pulley back up to a 2.9 your creating to much heat you should be able to get 320hp on a 2.9 with a good tuner

With a 12gph nozzle I highly doubt heat soak is the issue here. My set up was very similar last year and had no heat soak problems.

What's your injection mixture? 50/50?

Any suggestions on a tuner? I already have my software and licensing at Db performance so I only have to pay for time on the dyno. Or is there something I should have him change. I used to be on a 2.9. It made 20 less hp on the larger pulley

if you made 20hp less then you need to look elsewhere for a tuner the tvs is capable of a 100hp over stock with a 3.15 pulley and a good tuner on 93 and no meth

If its on DB's dyno you are doing just fine. If its in shootout mode then the numbers are a bit low, but if its the standard graph then I wouldn't worry about it. Do you have the graph? In the "Notes" it will say shootout mode if its in it, which loosly reflects dynojet numbers. Seems to be about an 18% difference between Shane's dyno dynamics and MAP's Dynojet. My friend made 595whp on DB's dyno in standard mode, 685whp in shootout, and the next day made 704whp at MAP.

Shane is a good tuner for most platforms, although I'm not sure he'd be willing to push the timing far enough on a TVS car. Post your graph if you can.

no we don't if we were to heat soak you would be boiling the coolant out of the manifold

Lol alright then... When our cars lose power with high iats2's. Whichever term you would choose to use with that is what I meant.

you loose more power from timing being pulled

the engine will heat soak when you shut it off and it sets there the temp rises same with the intake manifold but when coolant is moving it will not heat soak

And as far as pushing the timing I kept mentioning the timing and we kept going up till it started to knock then backed it down. Ended up with 22* of timing at the end

Well, if its bothering you and you really want to see, and go by the "industry standard" I guess to see where it stands, go to MAP and do a pull on their dynojet.

So with a 18% difference I'm looking at about 352whp. How about my original question as far as getting a little more out of it? Any ideas under $400?

As long as those are your numbers on a standard graph, then the 18% is a loose comparison. If you want to be sure though, throw it on MAP's dynojet and see. You could also email DB and see if they have it on file and request the graphs in standard and shootout mode so there is no confusion. I have a friend that just did that recently.

And I agree, a set of cams would be the next step for just a little over the price you mentioned.
