driving Boom Boom Boom Stall

me and my buddy were on the interstate tonight and around 120 mph and 6500 rpm roughly the car went boom a big flame shot out of the exhaust then the car stalled i tapped the gas and all you could here was supercharger so i pull off the side of the road and wait a few minutes and start the car again and it is running fine i didnt do any hard pulls but i did hit full boost does anyone have any idea what happened? did i detonate? maybe a bad plug/coilpack? a little bit of info would be great thanks

Have you looked in the motor, checked your plugs? If its running fine, then I would *think* that there isnt permanent damage, although a big flame out the back is kind of

Check your plugs, see if they have anything on them they arent supposed to. My guess is that your cat will be fried, and maybe some o2 sensors as well at the very least.

i would start by doing a compression test, that shows ok then you have compression in the cyl which should mean you have good valve seel and such, if it is still compressing just not enough do a wet compression to see if its the rings...if that fixes it then piston ring problem. if that doesnt fix it then would start by pulling the valve cover, check the tops of the valves, then pull the intake mani and check what you can see through the ports, same witht he exhaust. if all seems goodincluding supercharger then pull the head...

thats how i would proceed.. and good luck, keep us updated

at first i was thinking you blew out your cat bc that happend to me a while back i was doing a 2nd gear pull and it made loud bang and stalled and threw alot of black smoke. i checked under the hood and all was normal, it started and ran fine i threw an 02 sensore code a week later and well my cat was gone haha.
that was a year ago and shes still running fine, your problem seems alot more serious goodluck getting it fixed

update

compression test turned out normal so thats good news
went and bought new plugs 1 step cooler gapped them to .035
still didnt fix the problem so i decided to take the d/p off and when i did this huge ceramic/metal metal hunk of cat fell out so needless to say it was the cat all along .... so i pounded out the cat with a huge bar and blew it out with the compressor and i think she is gonna be just fine........for now.......

thanks everyone for your help

Just as an fyi your going to toss a cel, it will be p0420. Whoever did your tuning can block it from popping on.

edit: Also something to consider buying later on down the road would be an egt gauge and or an interceptor.

Check your plugs, see if they have anything on them they arent supposed to. My guess is that your cat will be fried, and maybe some o2 sensors as well at the very least.
wow, I guessed something right

Glad you found the problem, time to upgrade that downpipe!
