with all you guys running the drop in filter did you leave the bottom off of the stock airbox or did you put it back on with the new filter??????

did you notice a difference in sound also .... is it just as loud as a k&n intake or not????

I put the bottom back on. It is louder than stock but I have never heard one with the K&N intake.

people have done both. I would imagine with the bottom half off, it will be a little louder. More air = more sound

I have a K&N E-1009 in my airbox with the bottom left off and I like it a lot. I couldn't ever hear the whine stock, but now anything over 3K rpms whines like crazy. I am considering getting rid of the K&N though and getting the AEM dryflow filter so I don't get oil all over my MAF and start throwing codes.

With the E-0777 the only thing holding that filter in the air box is pressure from the seal at the top of the filter , if you dont wire tie , or zip tie the filter in place a bump could cause it to fall off if you run it without the bottom on .

It is louder with as little air restriction as possible. Like someone else said: more air = more whine. I left the bottom off an dremel'd off as much of the stock airbox as possible. Mine whines like a champ.

The E-1009 has a clamp and is just the right size to fit over the hole where the stock one sits. I had to cut a small hole in the side of the airbox for screwdriver access to tighten the filter clamp, but other than that, I left the bottom off the airbox without any other zip-ties or anything.

Yeah , its no problem with the E-1009 , but the original poster said he bought a drop in which is a E-0777, its a slip on that needs the bottom to hold it on (or ties ,wire ect.ect.) .
Hope he isnt out running around with the slip on just stuck up in there and nothing holding it in , its a tight fit but im sure it wouldnt take much to pop it off.

Sorry, I didn't know that "drop-in" automatically meant an E-0777 considering he didn't specify the model of his filter. I mean, I dropped mine in, LOL. Anyways, there should definately be something holding the filter on however you go about it. Otherwise, a nice bump or pothole and it could fall off.

YES! I want a dry-flow too. It is supposed to flow better than a K&N anyway.
