Emission Check Engine Light?
Emission Check Engine Light?
Over the weekend I got a solid Check Engine light (emission control). I had the same light a couple of days ago but I checked my gas cap (ok) and I am running Ultra 94 Sunoco gas (ok). I just put the E-1009 K&N filter on Thursday and everthing was running good till sunday then the solid check engine light came back on....I brought it too my GM dealer and they said the car is leaning out. Have any of you had the same problem? I can't see the K&N filter causeing the car too lean out I have had a dozen K&N's on different cars and no problems even my dads LT1 Camaro is ok with the K&N....Any ideas on what the problem is? Thanx for your help Colin
Same problem with me. my check engine light came on one night out nowhere, and i had the k&n drop filter for about 2 weeks, so i take it in and the guy said it was a bad 02 sensor and fixed the problem. New 02 sensor =no check engine light, and i was on my way.
hope its nothin serious for you, im guessing its the same problem.
Oh, and before i took it in i put my stock air filter back on, and im just going to keep it stock.

Sounds like the computer is rejecting the new filter. I would keep it stock as well until you can find full CAI that is built for our cars. I believe the Typhoon will be out late summer. Don't know for sure.
Ya the guy cleared my code but said if it comes back on. I have too take the filter out. It doesn't make any sense I have had K&N filters on all my cars and no problems....I will get him too check out the O2 sensor....Thanx Colin.....Do you guys think the CAI Typoon will throw a code like this? The code is saying its leaning out...? Colin
Leaning out.
Be sure to check every vacuum hose for proper installation, make sure all of the intake hoses are properly installed and the clamps are secure, make sure none of the rubber sections of hose are folded over on themselves and the MAF is properly and securely seated in its hoses.
Lean conditions are due to the engine getting unmetered air, in other words burning air that got into the engine some other way than going through MAF, or a restriction in fuel delivery.

If this keeps up I'd also have them look at your gas cap because I had a fault gas cap and was losing the seal in my lines and it finally failed the check. After replacing my gas cap and clearing the code it hasn't come back yet. This was at 1600km and I'm now at 4200km so I'm almost positive it's been solved.
