Engine at 90,000 miles, when do I...?

rebuild the engine? I'm running a 2.7, 60's, custom tuning, catless, and exhaust since 15,000 miles give or take. mostly highway miles. what basic maintenence should be done right now or soon?

can I make it to 125,000 without rebuilding?

thanks in advance,

i dont think anyone can answer that lol. its pretty much what would you do kinda deal... i would change allll fluids, plugs, wires, s/c oil. unless you have a blow gasket or anything... i wouldnt touch it. give her some sea foam and clear the carbon from the intake manifold and everything. but do all that before you change the oil and such. change the fuel filter... are you knocking or anything? if not... do the basic stuff you would do as if you bought a used car... change all fluids aka basic tune up

I'd say do a compression and a leakdown test, if those check out then really theres not a need to rebuild. However boosted engines generally in the long run require more rebuilds over time because they are working so much harder and have alot more stress than normally aspirated engines.

yea like rodimus said also. the dealer can do a compression test if you do not have the proper tools available and live near a good dealer that you know somebody at. and i did a seafoam once on my old car 2001 cougar v6 lmao with 2.75 exhaust at 3 inch mugen muffler. HOLY **** i smoked out 2 blocks. first time seafoamed at 115k... ALOOOOT of carbon.

Good to hear that its still going strong though (gives me high hopes! lol)

Just keep up with the basics and you should be fine. no need to mess with whats not broken.

ok a few quick questions, since alot of this is new to me.

1. what is seafoaming? How did you do it? How long does it take? At what cost? What does IT TELL YOU?

2. what do you guys mean by a compression test?

Side note: I was getting engine knock under WOT but replaced a bad fuel filter and cleaned my intake cone and it seems to have mitigated (fixed/eliminated) ALMOST ALL engine knock. Ironically, its noticeable though intermittent (sometimes it knocks for a few seconds, the rest of the time it doesn't) when I'm cruising at 70-75 mph in 5th gear at 3000RPM. I have no cooling mods and was looking to install a heat exchanger (possibly a dual pass but prob a HE) within the next month. My IAT2*'s run 130-150 during normal daily driving in 50*F + weather.

Any other advice/guidance is appreciated as I want to learn as much as possible Thanks

A compression test checks each cylinders compression. Your cylinders run like this. From top dead center - Downstroke (intake & fuel)...upstroke(COMPRESSION)...downstroke(power). ..upstroke(exhaust)...and it starts over

correct me if im wrong, but i believe that is the process

I'm not sure how they test for compression I forget, I think they plug something into the spark plug hole in each cylinder to check it, but if you loose compression as your car gets older because of the piston rings and seals and such.

loss of compression = loss of power.

A compression test is really easy to do. Google has all your answers. Basically you need a compression gauge that you can buy at advance for like 20 bucks. You take out spark plug, disconnect your injector harness, screw the gauge in. Turn it over and check the numbers. Do the same on every cylinder.
