Engine questions

So say "theoretically" that my #4 had very low comprssion and I needed to re-build the motor. I need Pistons, Rings, New Head Gasket, ARP Head Studs. Anything else I am missing??

One question I am pondering is to leave it at 9.5:1 or should I bump it to 10:1? I plan on running a 2.8" from here on out with the addition of a 50-110 shot of nitrous and a ported head....... What are some things I should consider while trying to make this decision?

go with the 10:1 for sure. that motor can handle it from what half these guys are running with a ported head and 2.8 pulley you'll be fine. the 110 shot im not sure im not a nitrous person but a 50 shot ude be fine.

On the nitrous side, I will let you know how it goes when I run the 50shot on the stock internals. I am using the 35shot currently for tonight, but on monday at 2 I am dyno'ing with the 50shot, wish me luck lol.

Keep stock compression. Need rod bolts, silicone, 1 crank bolt and 2 cam gear bolts. Tons of rags, oil and extra coolant.

Thanks for the parts, but don't just say stay stock compression. Why?? I like to learn and understand things not just do them

Tuning. In order to run higher compression you gotta pull some timing. The power difference because of this is negligble

you ever wounder why the Z06 is so fast other then its a vette? its be the compression it like 11.5:1 or somthing. The higher compression you go the more power you make. Now, the saying is low compression high boost or low boost and high compression. With a 10:1 compression its about inbetween. Your motor can handle the little extra compression with the same amount of boost. But the reason im not saying anything about the 110shot is because with that little extra compression i dont know if it is too much.

Youll get higher tq numbers with the higher CR. Not like OMG higher... but noticable.

Youll end up pulling more timing using the higher CR, it wouldnt be beneficial.

The better "numbers" come with using a lower CR, and a higher boost, than a higher CR, with lower boost.

Im not sure why zach is still hung up on a 35 shot...

If you have the LSJ... and your on the m62... i dont see why a 100 shot wouldnt work?...

It would DEFFINATLY have to be a progressive shot though.

nitrous loves high compression but you will also be moving quite a bit of boost, i would stick with stock compression. the higher compression will raise torque a little but it comes with not being able to use as much boost, which i know you want to go turbo later so still with stock CR

Well think... average hp output is around 270... a hundred shot would make it 370...

if you use a progressive controller.. not all the nitrous is shot at once, so the engine will be a little safer without all that power hitting at once.

.5 more CR wont hurt anything with boost. a 35 shot will prevent any knocking with the same amount of boost. You dont have to lower the boost if your increasing CR by .5 the 35shot will keep your temps down so you wont really need to pull much timing.

The GM build book uses 10:1 diamonds...

they do state they raised the CR from stock to 10:1.

Hrmmmm well with a ported head and a 2.8" and supporting mods theres a m62 running around 325whp i want 400whp on spray on the m62
