exhaust cutout
I was also planning on doing a header downpipe then a cutout, And leaving everything from the cat back stock. But was worried about not having enough back pressure, And was going to start a thread like this asking about it.
At what point would it be beneficial running a cutout?
What if i put the cut out after a highflow cat?
The reason i want to run the cutout is, like the stock exhaust just cruising but want to be able to make some noise at times

I have a Vibrant header/downpipe and a custom Magnaflow catback full 2.5. I used two mufflers instead of one muffler and a resonator. Driving around it sounds pretty stock (atleast on the inside). When I get on it, it sounds good and not ridiculus. Here is the old thread. Note it was before the header/downpipe. Is about the same noise wise but it "smoothed" it out a bit so it's not so poppy.

Hey question and sorta a thread jack... haha im running a zzp header and DP combe 2.5 and 2.5 exit on to stock catback with magnaflow muffler..... Sounds a little raspy woundering if I should look into a 2.5 cat-back? sound any better?
1. Do a search on backpressure, youll find a bunch of crap telling you how stupid you would have made yourself look if you posted a thread on backpressure. You really shouldnt be even thinking of an exhaust cutout at the moment, at all. Really, it would be a waste of money at this point in time. Wait till you have a little power. And more than just an intake and exhaust.
2. krazy, do you have a cat? If not, get one that will take away rasp. Cheaper alternative is a resonator. Cost is like 65 at a muffler shop (that price included to have it welded on for me)

I have done some research on backpressure but its been awhile, IIRC, Its not realy backpressure that is good, its the "scavenging" or what ever its called that you want which goes along with backpressure.
And my car just has an intake so its not 400hp flowing a **** ton of exhaust lol
yes, yes it was.
Notice how i said, you would have make yourself look stupid (i meant by posting another backpressure thread)
i did not say that you WERE stupid...

Well when it comes to this car i am stupid at times so its good...
Like i said all my know how and experience comes from turbo cars, So this is a whole new concept to me.
The only reason i wanted a cutout is so i could keep stock catback so its still quiet

Is this directed towards me?
Im a turbo guy, And with them backpressure is never even a thought. But with N/A and supercharged motors everybody always say you will loss power with a cutout,

but backpressure is not good, regardless of na, turbo, or super.
the biggest thing you want is exhaust VELOCITY. you want to get the exhaust out as quickly as possible to make room for the new exhaust. go too big, and the exhaust pulses will run into each other, which in turn makes the engine work harder to push them out. go too small and again the engine has to work harder to force the air out. this is why exhaust size is an important thought. most people just slap on an exhaust and call it a day, because they want a loud car. aka ricers.
