Exclamation Exhaust Cutout!!

I have designed and built an exhaust cut out for my SS. I am debating on whether or not I should use it. I Had a cutout on my Z28 before and it added about 6 HP while being used. I am wondering if installing this will help with my Horsepower or just create an extremely loud exhaust?

I am open to suggestions. Also if I am to install this should I put it before the CAT or after?

Hope someone could help!

i already have one on my ss, i have the qtec (quick time electric cutout) . im am currently working with them on developing a whole exhaust system , header back. but for the mean while we put one on anyway. it sounds pretty good, and i feels like more power also, but i will prove it anyways, i will be dynoing the car this week and going to the track. if anyone is interested pm me i will get a video clip of everything

Arrow Still Need help!!

I stuck it on tonight just to try it out and it sounds pretty freaking good. But cannot really feel the difference in throttle response, or in horsepower. is there anyone who knows anymore please let me know thanks for the response you guys.

I really am not interested in being heard I want mine to be a sleeper. If you know what I mean. The reason I was thinking of the Cutout is because when it is cllosed it sounds like a stock SS, but I was hoping with the cutout it would add some fear to the competition. Currently working on a Custom Borla Exhaust. Still debating on it though! Also soon to come a 50 shot of NOS, MSD ignition, and Intake. Wondering what else I should add to this to make her run like a bad ass.?

The big thing to me is going for the stock look I do not want to change the appearance. I may have to change ride heigth and put stiffer springs and sway bars on it. also want to get a hold on a performance chip when someone decides to make one.

Sorry I'm no help to your wuestions but however I'm diligently looking for a new muffler and tip for my car. Cat back I feel is unecessary for now but I've been looking at the Flowmaster Series 60 sport compact exhaust. Anyone know if this would be a good muffler and if it would even fit?

Tom

Which 60 series?

Ok you might have to do some Mods but the best thing would be to go with a straight through design of the 60 series. You will get better flow. With less of the garble that a crooked pipe would give you.

If you don't mount a cut-out right wjere it needs to be you will not see a gain but a loss. The best place is usually right before the muffler so you still retain some velocity.

But then again 6HP isn't worth loud and annoying to me.

You would want to put it before the cat, because the cat is where you lose the most power post combustion. Its illegal in most states though.

And codyss, you wouldnt want a dump valve on a NA car, but the best exhaust setup for a FI car is as little restriction as possible. You should feel a bit more power when you open it up.

Thanks You guys!

I appreciate it you guys. actually I did stick it on right before the cat. I just figured if anything the better the flow the more the HP gains. Will dyno soon as I can to let you guys know.

Also I still look stock so noone can tell till I open it up which is nice I can still keep my gas mileage at a decent level. I think I will leave it the way I have it now.

Thank all you guys for your help though

My little man...I think you should spend more time in spelling class and less time on the Internet if you really want to know

Putting a cut-out before the Cat will make you lose power not gain it.

If you were running a tuned header maybe but not with the stock high flow manifold. FI or N/A you still need some room for scavenging and velocity to add up.

not for a turbo, no exhaust is the best exhaust

yeah i had to re-read some of his posts to see what he was talking about.

to me a cut-out isn't worth it. it makes the car annoying and you only get a couple (if any) horsepower out of it.

you just cut out a section of pipe and weld in the cut-out

I run one but only open it at the track. 1 because there is no low end torque at all. 2 it's loud as hell. I run a 3 in exhaust to the stock muffler also so maybe that's why.
