Exhaust Popping Under Deacceleration!!..??

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have the same annoying exhaust popping that I am experiencing under deaccleration. I have the Corsa Sport cat-back exhaust and have already checked several times for leaks and everything is fine. The exhaust note sounds great until I let off the gas, then it goes from quality/ classy sounding exhaust to straight rice!! I do have the GMMP Stg 2 with a 2.9" pulley and I was already told that the GM tune was rich; could this be the cause? I also checked the gap size too and that was .039. Any suggestions or comments?

lol, most people like that noise, its just small backfires, nothing to worry about, as long as you have a Cat.

LOL...I think its funny as hell everyone loves that sound...haha..I CANT STAND IT!! I actually tack welded a CC insert in the exhaust before the resonator to help muffle the exhaust slightly; which helped a lot but its still annoying for me. My exhaust sounds so good when the engine runs cooler, but as soon as she heats up, forget it. I guess its just something I have to deal with, other than the pops and backfires the exhaust/car/SC sounds sick!! Definitely turns heads! I was just making sure it wasn't a tuning related issue.

p.s. With a header and DP installed, would this really intensify the exhaust note?

actually if you go with the gmpp manifold and a downpipe the crackle will lessen alot, the reason it baffles like this is because of our downpipe

there is no leak man, believe me

a little trick you can do have a friend or two in front of the car and the side while someone takes a towel and covers the exhaust tip where no air is escaping that way it will come out where the leak is present believe me you wont find a leak

My car does it, and I've only got GMS2. I noticed it very rarely before GMS2, but ever since putting on GSM2 is happens all the time. I also get backfires on 1-2nd shifts if I drive casually up to 4k rpm in first.

yeah mine does that too. I love it. Drop yours (those with auto) into intermediate and it'll be a little louder.

Air is simply getting into the catback exhaust. Probably at the downpipe connection.

My first car was a 1996 Camaro SS and the exhaust would pop all the time. Why? Air was getting into the catback at the Y pipe.

That was my initial thought about the exhaust...I am going to have to recheck all connections. Thanks. But how does air get into the system when their are exhaust gases constantly flowing out? Does it create some sort of vaccum that sucks in outside air over a leak?

That is correct, its a mix of slightly fueled air making its way out the exhaust system with some combustion going along the way.

SRT-4 crack, because under decel, timing is retarded to like 2 or 3 degrees BTDC, so the fuel isn't igniting until its on its way out of the cylinder.

My car had absolutly no poping what so ever, with the 3" exhaust, backpressure was at a minimum, and I advanced the timing up to 35-38 degrees BTDC on decel, so by the time the exhaust stroke came, almost all the fuel was burned already. It would still pop occasionally, but that was usually just after letting off, on a high rpm run, and it usually was the flames poping, not the exhaust.

haha...I know...u can always tell an SRT-4, whether on or off the gas, they do sound like complete $ss!!....well that is off the gas, on they sound pretty good. Well soon enough I will be purchasing my header and DP, whether that changes teh flow, enhances the pops and farts, so be it!
