Exhaust too loud! Please help

Alright guys I installed an Ottp long tube with cat on my car with a catback from mandrelexhaustsystems.com. I put in a magnaflow resonator as well. Well it was way too loud. But the Borla muffler I got with it was straight through and figured that's why. So I went and got A dynomax super turbo put on this morning because I've read how quiet it is. Well it's still loud as hell! It made highway driving quieter but when I throttle into it its raspy and sounds like a damn civic. I'm so frustrated right now. Any suggestions? Another resonator?

I have a zzp 3" header, dp, and catback with highflow cat, magnaflow resonator and muffler.... it is very quiet, and sounds amazing.

I would guess either your cat or your muffler... make sure everything is tight and secure, you could have a leak somewhere which is causing it to rasp...

LSJ's are gonna be raspy. You can try adding another resonator but I've been fighting this very thing for a while now. You are probably close to being as good as it gets. Try a 2nd resonator and let me know. That's the only other thing I wanted to try but haven't got around to yet.

I have the same setup - the ottp header mines the zzp, But I I agree the borla was a dinky muffler, Im trying to get the car in an exhaust shop next week to install the SS/tc muffler, I'll let you know how that goes.

/\ haha ain't that true. Not to mention a magnet for bored cops.

Revisit your system. Same thing happened to me with my SC. I ordered the corsa sport exhaust, and mated that up to a clear image header. My ride home I juiced it through a tunnel and it was ridiculous. Sounded wicked tho... lol

Yea it sucks man, and its not loud loud but its just too much sound for me, I miss hearing the whine! and Im sick of the drone, I tried the superturbo aswell ended up shipping it back to Summit it wasnt much quieter, My system is also catless! but the rasp has almost disappeared as the exhuast has broken in now....If the the stock muffler doesn't it do it, Im thinking of that silent resonator by one of these well known companies, I cant remember who thou but the name of the res had something to do with quiet or silent and have that welded in where the cat would of gone.

hmmm, idk, maybe ill record a video or something when i have time. i have 304 stainless 3" zzp midlength header:

Model:1.75 inch 304 stainless
Option 1:Magnaflow cat
Option 2:304 stainless downpipe
Option 3:3" downpipe, 3" bolt in exit

bolted to zzp 304 stainless catback with magnaflow resonator & muffler. It almost sounds stock at idle, but a little more deep. it sounds low and mean when I get on it. no rasp.

Ok I may have jumped the gun a little. After a highway run it's defiantly quieter. But still too loud for me when I get into it. So maybe time to start looking into resonators. The one I put on is a 14" magnaflow but it's straight through. Anyone know of a resonator that's super quiet?

Ya I remember Zoomer posting a video of a Cobalt with 3" exhaust and it was super quiet. Said something about a new resonator but then never posted again. Thats what i need!

im not making fun of u but thats what happens when yo buy cheaper stuff. exhaust is just something you need to spend money on. if you want your car to sound good and run good and things like that you need to do lots of research and get good parts... thats what ive learned.

The only other exhaust i would buy and thats a corsa touring. And thats out of my price range. So i'll make my own the way i want and it will still be cheaper.

um.. a muffler isnt an exhaust, a resonator isnt anything but a sound changer. and NO pipe is not pipe. hahaha. why do you think that there are exhaust companies? if people could buy and bend and cut there own exhaust and have it sound and be just as good as a borla or something then dont you think they would. its not just piping. now im getting out of this thread because im not arguing. i simply said im not making fun of the OP but its what happens when you buy cheap parts. ask anybody.

Ya i agree. I've got a friend with a Magnaflow catback and it's loud as hell. Paid way more than i did. Let me know how the stock TC muffler goes for ya boosted. I've been looking into resinators and the only thing i can find is the Vibrant super quiet resonator which is straight through as well and can't see it being a world of difference over the Magnaflow. But that whisper resonator that ZZP used to sell is no longer around? I've read a few threads back in 08 on here of guys really liking them. I shot an email to Tim at ZZP asking about them but no reply back yet.

im sorry man. but its pretty much impossible to get a quiet aftermarket exhaust for this car.. there might be a way but idk of any. exhaust companies dont wanna be the company thats known for having a quiet exhaust. people wanna pay 1000 dollars for an exhaust people can hear... i do get what your saying tho.

Will do man...And on the whisper resonator I talked to Zoomer via email he said there is a story behind them not selling it anymore but apparently there working on something new, not that one they recently posted thou. from what i found on this site is alot of the whisper res's fell apart after time, is that the reason for them not selling it I dont know, But damn the vids I found of it on lsj's is exactly what Im looking for. As for the Vibrant that's the one I was talking about! I couldn't remember the name for the life of me. If I'm not mistaken there is no such thing as a offset resonator or atleast I have not seen one, I would try the vibrant just due to there rep and the words super quit in the title lol

These motors are just noisy. Even with a stock header and stock exhaust they're noisy and droney once the packing burns out after a few years. lol
