First Upgrade

Alright i was thinking about buying the GM Stage 2 Kit first b/c not only does it not void my warranty but it is the best bang for the buck in my opion, but i also want to do other things to car, the other most exspensive thing i want to do to the Cobalt is CatBack Exhuast. So just give me your opinion of what you would do first, IN YOUR OPINION!!
Thanks, Preach

I would say exhaust or intake first, then work your way up.

I would go Stage 2 first. Very significant gains vs. the cat-back. Then when you add the cat-back later you will show greater gains than putting it on stock.

Yeah, I'd agree with stage II first...it's more expensive than intake or exhaust, and with that in there, you'll see better gains (more bang for the buck) when you do get the other stuff done.

Stage 2 all the way, but then exhaust before intake....from reading people's experiences with exhaust headers (such as GMPP extrude-honed manifold), this may be a good second purchase, then your cat-back. Personally, I think the stock intake setup is pretty good (except for the filter).

Your not running anything, non GM, that will effect the engine's tuning though. You are just freeing up the air movement. I don't think they would be willing to turn their heads if something serious happened to your motor and you were not using a GM tune.

mods

depends on your priorities.
if you need your warranty intact go with the GM kit first.
if warranty is not an issue go with the intense set up.

i have stage 2 and i just put up my dyno results.
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lsj-performance-tech-47/vt-dyno-day-2-a-21900/

my next step is the airbox mod. then onto replacing all the mounts motor front and rear tranny.

yeah stage 2 is the way to go, i did cat-back first then stage 2 then intake. stage 2 is gonna make the biggest difference and the 7k rpm rev limit just makes driving so much more fun

^^^agreed! id also do the engine mounts and or torque dampeners to help transfer that power and eliminate the destructive wheel hop.

I would go with the clutch, then stage 2, then i/h/e...I mean that's not how I did it, but that would be the route to follow to protect warranty if you wanted, I had n20 at exactly 500 miles, but I don't care about the warranty...that's why I went Intense...

I voted gm stage 2, but that's only if you want power.

If you want a reliable car, such as one that won't spit out clutches, I would go with some suspension mods or rims/tires. GM said the heavy rims on this car cost us 0.2 in the 1/4 compared to the redline rims. So it would look cool and give you a little extra boost in power (about as much as a catback would).

I wouldn't get a catback because it's expensive, doesn't give much performance, and I would rather hear the SC than the exhaust.

Being a young kid though, I'd make sure to stick with your warranty.

I would go with hp tuners then u can get custom tuning. If something major goes wrong u ccan reload the stock program before u bring it in. Instead of a catback just get a muffler and replace the 2.25 inch section right before the muffler with 2.5 to match the rest of the exhaust.
