flip chip info

over the last 2 months or so i've had a computer installed on my car (along with another cobalt from ohio) by a company that is going to be making flip chips for our cars. one of the owners last night told me i could post a little bit about the stuff we've done but i can't give any specific gain numbers or any other info that is proprietary to the unit.

my car was a mess with wires dangling everywhere, a laptop hooked up inside and i wasn't allowed to install any performance parts for the last two months(which is why i haven't been posting alot)... me and brian (the guy with the other cobalt) had the exact same setup doing datalogs for a long time, we would email the logs back to the company they would ask us to make a change here and there but we didn't really see any improvements.

we took our cars back to their shop and they installed the second computer system which we ran settings that were comparable to stock for about 100 hours combined and we made some more changes. then about a week ago they let us start using the high octane mode (100+) and let me tell you running in that mode with 110 octane felt so good it would make baby jesus cry with joy.

last night we put both of our cars back on the dyno to do some pulls with the 110 and both of our cars put out a substantial amount of gains. and this is on two cars with basically stock motors (mine has i/h/e) (brian has the k&n drop in) we put out almost identical gains. next on the list is to get a 2.8 pulley and try it again cause they're saying with the motor almost stock and no extra boost, we're really not seeing the full benefits of the different modes.

good news is they're saying it's going to be out by summer, the bad news is they have no idea how it's going to work with the staged cars and the new flash or the raised rpm limit.

<edit> forgot to add they will be making a flip chip with nitrous mode instead of high octane as well.

Well thats good news as the more Companys getting onboard with programing & such will force GM to step it up with there STG kits & even updated flashs if they want to keep the money rolling in on there kits.
I feel GM Has done quite good on the STG 2 but they also warranting there kits which is a big plusto a new car buyer

Keep posting as they alow you to & thanks for the info!!!

Why wouldn't they want you to post the HP gains? If they were that good you would think they would want you to post them so that people will gain interest.

I think it's like beta testing game for companys you have to sign a contract pretty much & you can only offer info as they see fit to eliminate a compeditor from beating you to the punch.
Plus you play by there rules & usually you get the product for free when it all said & done so it's a perk for you to be a tester but your still at risk of damaging your car due to poor tuning & what not.

They are a couple lucky SOBs to get to have this oppertunity

yeah, it's called a non-disclosure agreement.. basically it says if we released any information that could result in lost profits for the company, we can be held responsible for causing the loss.

They need to tune and dyno for different pulley sizes with and without injectors. I don't see much of a point in 100+ octane fuel on a stock pulley.

we did pulls with the first computer system that didn't have any modes and the gains were ok, nothing like the high octane mode though. we didn't do any pulls yet with the second computer in normal mode because we've both been running tanks of 110 octane for a week now. it wouldn't show true gains to run 110 octane in the normal position. i think after brian gets the pulley/i/h/e installed he is doing the some more pulls(in HO mode), once the rest of this fuel is gone from my tank i'm going back to 93 octane and we'll see what they want to do next with mine.

If you have a stock Cobalt S/C SS, is it ok to put regular gas in it? Will premium help keep the engine in better shape or is it just needed if you have performance modifications? I want to get the GM stage 2, so will that need premium and how much would it help?

You should run premium for best performance but regular won't blow it up. With Stage 2 Premium is required.
