Fuel Filter

Couldn't find it anywhere on the internet? Went to Advanced Auto Parts and they said you have to get it through the dealership? Is that true?

www.crateenginedepot.com they've got the OEM fuel filters and oil filters you should use on our cobalts.

forgot to say, you'll probably be paying about $40 for a fuel filter, thankfully i found the part number and found someone on ebay selling dealer inventory and the exact filter needed for $10. Gmpartsdirect.com and gmpartscheap.com will have them too.

Yea you said it. The fortunate part is I got the ticking in the a/c unit fixed and the chrome off my interior door handle fixed under warrenty. Hate to think what that'd cost me.

yeah, the fuel filter was actually the easiest thing i replaced on the Cobalt, easier than the oil filter. Besides having to jack up the car you take out one bolt, then there are 3 quick disconnect fuel lines, one you need a special tool for. Whole filter change time was about 10 minutes after getting my car set up on ramps.

most cars they say 30000 miles. but it never hurts to change it early

most times they suggest fuel system service at 30000 which includes the fuel filter, but like said above it depends

wow thats nuts. Wix doesnt even offer a filter for our cars. I guess will have to stick to the OEM. are there any special procedures to R&R this filter? such as clamping anything to keep gas from spraying everywheres? thanks.

I dont think there should be any pressure as long as the ignition isnt on so the pump isnt on. You might leak a little but shouldnt be spraying.

correct. what you can do is, pull the fuse for the fuel pump and fire up the car. when it stalls, there isn't any pressure.

you should pull the fuel pump relay from the fuse box, and start the car. it will sputter and die, which will de-pressurize the fuel lines. some will still come out, but much less than if you don't do this. and have something handy, because some will still drip out.

cool thanks. spraying was just an over exageration. spraying did however happen when i replaced the injectors, and this is not an exageration lol....now this fuse you speak of, is it located under the hood or under the dash? thanks again

it's under the hood. it's a big gray square relay, not one of the little fuses. it should be labled on the chart. just make sure you put it in exactly where it was, first time i put it in the wrong spot because there was empy spots around it, and the car wouldn't start

I replaced mine at 12K miles and when i blew it out backwards their was a ton of brown **** in it . I only run sunoco 93 (94 isn't around here anymore) . I was amazed that it was so dirty @12K , i ended up changing gas stations to see if it helps at all.

oh nice. yeah i am amazed too. we all use premium, i mean its suggested when we upgrade to stage 2. none the less, my tail pipe is still super black. i dont get it, i thought higher octane burned cleaner. i have 45k on my car and havent changed the fuel filter yet. my dad works for GM so he is picking me one up this week. so i will have it changed soon. still just seems wierd to me all the carbon build up we get in these cars running on premium. i use BP 93 every time.
